Luckyeeb: This book provides maybe 3-5 facts that are useful in the fermentation of distillation of spirits but otherwise it is written at a grammar school level with few detailed instructions it fails to actually define some of the terms that are being used I would have to say that I can find this detail on the Internet and not have to pay for it this book is not very useful and you would be better off not spending your money on it

DD Gott - Donadees Corner: I guess that if anything is true, I have learned that cooking is not easy for a person like me. I didn’t learn how to cook while growing up; I was always outside working with my dad. My head under the hood of a big rig and fetching tools. My brothers hated working with him, and I was the only one that loved it. I did learn how to fend for myself with cars and almost anything else. My dad always said, “it was good to be a girl, but that girl needed to know how to be self-sufficient.” Well, I definitely am that, thanks to him. Oh, and he always made me wear gloves still to have soft hands WITHOUT grease under the nails!!! LOL, I have collected cookbooks to fix anything that I want. I love having digital ones; they don’t take up any space. Also, having a small family now that the kids and grandkids are grown, having a cookbook is the only way to make smaller portions.

Grace: On my DIY quest, I thought of making some alcohol for myself and I am happy I came across Richard Armstrong’s guidebook for this. Moonshine has been sullied over the years, but it’s really the purest form of alcohol you can find.

I love that Armstrong provides clear details on what is needed to make the best moonshine. He tackles topics such as the equipment needed and where to source for it, to safety precautions to take when making the alcoholic beverage. It was particularly interesting to learn that making moonshine indoors can be catastrophic.

However, my absolute favorite thing about this book is the references cited throughout the content. I love learning everything I can about a topic I’m interested in and Armstrong provides the resources to facilitate such learning. Another topic of note to me was the discussion on the health benefits of different types of alcoholic beverages. However, Armstrong keeps with universal medical advice by pointing out that overconsumption of alcohol is still harmful to one’s health despite the benefits brought by its consumption.

Overall, the book is very well written and is easy to follow. It’s so much more than...

Erica Martin: If you’ve ever considered making your own moonshine or other alcoholic beverages, this book is for you. The author does a good job of providing information on everything you need to know about making moonshine, including the history of moonshine, legal matters you need to consider (moonshine isn’t legal in every state), precautions you need to take, information about how to distill moonshine and other spirits safely, the equipment you need, information about the different distilled spirits mentioned in the book, and distillation procedures.

The book also has many different flavored moonshine recipes, including apple pie moonshine, sweet feed moonshine, peach moonshine, lemon cream moonshine, and key lime moonshine. Next, the author explains how to test your moonshine to make sure it’s good quality - he explains what the different colors of moonshine indicate, and ways you can ensure you’re making safe moonshine.

In the last section, he talks about how to turn the hobby of making moonshine into a business. He discusses writing a business plan, conducting market research, finding a location for your business, and applying for permits. He also discusses expenses...

Steve Burke: As an intermediate and scientific distiller, I was hoping to find a better understanding of what I am doing. This book appears to be written by a backwoods distiller and while the information contained in the book may well keep you out of trouble, it is lacking in science and solid information. The only good thing about the book is that it was cheap and short, so I only wasted a couple of hours reading it and a bit over ten bucks. OK for a rank amateur although it would not help and amateur get started very well. So a useless book.

Perspicacia: Very basic information. Very much for very very small scale hobbyist. Certainly no secrets given away here. Lots of things they don't tell you which with experience you might learn after making lots of wrong turns

Sheena: ‘DIY Homemade Moonshine, Whisky, Rum, and Other Distilled Spirits: The Complete Guidebook to Making Your Own Liquor, Safely and Legally’ (mouth full so let’s shorten it to ‘DIY Homemade Moonshine’, shall we?) was a good basic introducationary piece to the world of Moonshine. If you unsure what that is or too lazy to Google for any bit of information—Moonshine is any kind of alcohol, usually whisky or rum, that is made in secret to avoid high taxes or outright bans on alcoholic drinks but most of readers would most likely have heard the term via historical books or Westerns.

Nonetheless, unlike most Moonshine related material that has a myriad of guides, how-tos, and DIY tips and tricks on how to make your own brew at home—this how-to is focused primarily on the safety aspect of making the liquor and how to do it legally. If you haven’t known (which I didn’t until reading this), if not done properly there are dangers of making Moonshine at the comfort of your own home (or bathtub if you’re going old school) that would cause brewers to fall prey to the harmful effects (e.g. blindness, poisoning, etc.) of unchecked alcohol. Besides the prospect of being...
