taliatalia: Using this product right out of the box was very straight forward — just screw on the back and adjust it to whatever bottle you choose. Then, firmly press the bottle down while rotating it on the wheels to get a good score mark. Rather than plunging it into boiling water and then an ice bath, I poured boiling water from a kettle over the score mark and just ran it under cold tap water. Worked great and popped right off!
I found it works best on wine bottles, though I was able to use it on smaller beer bottles as well. Love the fact that it comes with sandpaper and an extra cutting wheel, all you need is a bottle! Instead of throwing away old glass containers and bottles, make them into glasses, vases, holders, or whatever else you can imagine :)

Amazon Customer: Any review that says the product does not work is flat out WRONG! If you read and follow the directions you will get perfect bottle cuts each and every time. I did make two slight changes to the process mainly because they made logical sense.
1) I left the bottle in the boiling water for 30 seconds.
2) I used salt to lower the temperature of the ice bath and left it in there for 15 seconds.
When I lifted it out of the ice bath, the bottom fell off within 5 seconds. Clean cut. Very easy to sand.
I duplicated it again just to make sure it was not some kind of fluke and BOOM! I got the exact same results! Clean cut! And an extremely easy sanding job!
So let me emphasize this again....when you read the directions you will get perfect results. Any review about this product where the buyer says, "it doesn't work" is solely because of an ID10T issue.

CandiceLCandiceL: This was my first time using a bottle cutter and I tried a beer bottle first as there are lots of craft ideas to use with beer bottles. I liked the instructions to set up and use but could have been even more as my bottle did not break at the score line. I think I could improve with practice but am not an expert by any means. I really liked that it came with the sand paper and everything I needed to start crafting right away! My husband enjoyed using it as well!

Jess CJess C: I bought this to cut some Rogue brand beer bottles and others that had painted on labels. I wanted to make candle holders and drinking glasses.
Before starting, I read some tips from other reviewers. I found that you cannot score too much. If you listen while scoring, it will make a different noise when going back over the cut. If you "re-score" on the same cut, you will end up with knicks that are hard to sand out. The kit comes with plenty of waterproof sandpaper, grit 120. I also used the "candle method" that another reviewer mentioned. I had some tea candles and I held the scored line on the bottles about an inch above the flame and slowly rotated the bottle for 3-4 minutes. You will hear some popping and cracking noises. Then after heating the score, I dunked the bottles into a large pot of ice water. They just fell apart, very clean cuts. I cut 7 bottles so far and only one had a large knick that was a pain to sand out. Your arm/hand might get tired from sanding.
I would've given this product 5 stars but there is a gap in the track where you cannot adjust it to cut certain measurements, even with turning the guide around. But overall I am very happy with...

BridgetBridget: I have to admit that I was really nervous about trying this as I'm the classic "Pinterest fail" mom and I'm well known for screwing up my ambitious project ideas. It took me a couple days to even open the box and was pleasantly surprised at the simplicity of the tool.
My goal is to make a set of drinking glasses out of some old beer bottles as a gift to my dad. So far I've been practicing on my Modelo bottles. The first one was a bust since my scoring line was uneven, purely as a result of trying to rush through. My second attempt was near perfect! I'm excited and confident that after a few more practice rounds, I'm going to be able to get started on my goal project.
It's a great little tool, safe to use, and perfect for a beginner. Just be patient and follow the enclosed instruction sheet exactly. I even plan to let my 13 yo give it a try for a garden chime she wants to make with colored glasses bottles. We are excited to get a lot of use out of this bottle cutter.
