C. JohnsonC. Johnson: I’m writing this as a beginner as that is what I am. I received the book yesterday and painted these yellow roses today.
The book has nine projects, five of which are step by step. The instructions are clear, concise, and include a picture with each step.
The tracings are easily transferred to watercolor paper. I used Saral transfer paper along with a tracing tool. I don’t remember its name so I’ll attach a photo of it.
Following the instructions in this book has boosted my confidence, and I’m looking forward to painting another. Recommended for any and all beginners.

Metto in fondo lista colori usati.

maruski: This book has vellum patterns in it that you trace onto your own watercolor paper then paint according to the intructions in the book. It does not have watercolor paper pre-printed with flowers you just rip out and paint like some other books. It's OK, but the elaborate drawing needs you to trace over the whole thing with a pencil on the reverse sid, then put the vellum down over your watercolor paper pencilled side down, then you rub the reverse side with a spoon, which transfers the pencil graphite lightly onto your water color paper. The you can paint the very faint image you just transferred... Edit: after doing a few of these drawings I increased to 5 stars. The tracings aren't that hard and the instructions are good. Now that I have more skill with watercolor, I also appreciate that I can choose my own favorite paper and transfer the image to that rather than being stuck with a preprinted paper that may nit be on my preferred type of medium.

Liz: I have about four of these "Ready to Paint" books and they are all great. Beautiful drawings, beautiful color photos, step by step instructions with photos of each step.
The only problem I have with them, that I think most newbie or hobby painters might also have, is that the drawings are huge! It's quite daunting to paint something so large when you're learning about watercolor.
I found a great solution, though. I removed the line drawings and took them to Staples and had them all reduced to a 5 x 7 size. That cost about $ .10 each!
Now I have a much more manageable size to paint, put in a nice color mat, and be able to easily mail them to friends for gifts.
If the large size scares you or doesn't come out the way you want, try reducing the size. Watercolor is much simpler when you start small.

Anette BAnette B: The book itself + guides are very nice, and the pictures also very instructive. I like the amount of take-out pictures.
The artist instructs you to draw up the flowers with a 2B pencil and then transferring it by placing it downward onto the paper and using a solid, smooth item to pres/go over the image to leave the graphite lines onto the paper.
I found that a bit strugglesome.
So I used a black transfer paper instead, but this only worsened the issue (as you can see in the photo).
I do think there are a lot of great tips in the book, but if you can h try to draw the flowers yourself. Not only is it nice practice, it's also more convenient in the long run.
If you want to use a light board instead, make sure to use one with AT LEAST 4000 lux, for proper background lighting, otherwise you are not able to see through thick watercolor paper!
