Create a Professional Look with the Large Natural Bristle Renaissance Chalk Painting and Wax Brush

AK: I have bought four of these since I started recently painting some pieces of furniture with chalk paint and applying wax over it. I think the brushes work great and are easy to clean. I have had a few bristles come out, not many though, but I have had that happen with regular paint brushes. It is not uncommon for that to happen. These are much cheaper than the Annie Sloan brushes and I think they work just as great. I always wash them out with warm water and dish soap right after use and hang them to dry. They are made well and get the job done!

Nigel: If you prep this brush correctly according to the instructions there is little or no bristle loss. (I had none the whole time I used it) Really easy to use and does the job well. Would buy again.

Slinky: I will preface this review by saying this is the first of this kind of brush I've bought. I recently began painting and waxing some second hand furniture and bought this because it was recommended on a website. The brush arrives in a really nice box and is the right shape for waxing. Applying the wax is very easy because of the shape, however, the amount of bristles that come out is really frustrating. It is worse after the first clean of the brush too. I would say, a bristle falls out every other time you apply the wax which then has to picked off when you wipe the excess wax off. As I said, I don't have anything to compare this too, however, I would look to buy a different brush next time

Amazon Customer: A few reviews said this was rubbish and shed bristles a lot. I disagree. I think it's a great brush. Works really well for applying wax and chalk paint although I have one for each. I've used it for 12 pieces of furniture now and I would highly recommend it.

Natasha: Bought this to paint kitchen cabinets and not that impressed at all. It's really pricey for what it is. The finish is not that great and I ended up using the roller instead. The hair bristles kept coming loose as well. Would not recommend

Fiona69: Product arrived in a box ,it looked well made and was a nice weight,however when I used it with rustoleum chalk paint it left streaks and also quite a few bristle hairs behind which was somewhat annoying. Cleaning the brush was not easy rinsed under warm water and used as recommended dish soap however it didn't all come off and upon it drying the bristles fanned out and curled ...this is definately no where near the same quality as Annie Sloan brushes and it is far to expensive for the quality.

Kristen S.: I really in truly think this company has nailed it and I have no idea how. Especially given the price point! I’ve had this brush for quite sometime now; I use it on smaller projects and so far, I’m really pleased.
It’s very comfortable to hold, it’s lightweight. Yet made of great quality. Shedding is to be expected. However, I’ve experienced minimal. In fact a lot less than I have with some of my more expensive brushes
I will say this (and I think this is why some of the other reviewers have complained about shedding)...STIPPLE, STIPPLE, STIPPLE!!!...
Chalk paint isn’t really meant to be applied in strokes anyway. So you will experience more shedding if you’re using this technique. Especially if there’s not a lot of product on your brush.
Stippling will not only prevent this problem.
But it will also help you to achieve a flawless finish. (A finish that doesn’t include brush marks or random dried up bristles throughout your project).
Lastly, make sure you take proper care of your brush and you follow their instructions. Keeping your brush clean is super important.
Last tip: subsequent to washing your brush, add a little hair...

Rachel: PERFECTION in a craft brush!! These are a game changer if you’re into re-doing furniture like I am!! I bought two so I can have one for my clear wax and one for my dark wax. I’m sure they are excellent for paint as well. It was so fun applying the wax with these brushes. I felt like the ~ British fancy chalk paint lady~, but these brushes are a fraction of the price! Seriously easy and so much better than using a rag or regular paintbrush to apply soft wax. It’s comfortable to hold and to manipulate, which is so important when working with a larger piece in particular. The brushes washed and dried quickly and easily. I used Dawn dish soap with warm water and hung to dry with the convenient attached strap. I’m looking forward to my next piece and it’s because these brushes have made my new found hobby immensely more enjoyable. Thanks for a great product!

ACWildlife : I must admit I have no other chalk paint brushes to compare this to. But thus far, I really like it and am buying another one. I followed the instructions about brushing your fingers through it before its first use, to shake off any loose bristles. I hardly saw any come out. I also got it wet, and after each time using it I wash it and wrap it -- as suggested -- so it doesn't dry fanned out.
As far as making the paint job better, this brush is my clear wax brush. It holds a little or a lot, it's easy for me to use and if this helps, I have small hands and the handle is not too long. Easy to clean, no major loss of bristles, and great for wax. Now I'll see if my next one will work well with paint. (been using a short handled Wooster) and I can't wait to get my next one. Tools are so important for a successful project so I hope getting decent brushes for chalk and wax paint will help improve my technique.

Barakah: I recently set about painting my very tired wooden kitchen cabinets with chalk paint. I came across several reviews stating I should use this style of round brush rather than a standard paint brush. I was somewhat skeptical about the whole chalk paint concept in the first place and even more skeptical about needing a 'special' paint brush. But heyho - in for a penny in for a pound (as they say in England), so I ordered 2 of these brushes - one dedicated to the chalk painting and the other to the waxing.

I followed the instructions about preparing the brush before use to get rid of any loose bristles, which was quick and easy to do. I used the chalk paint brush all day for 7 whole days, washing the brush thoroughly each night with warm water (as instructed) and then hung the brush to dry over night. I had hardly any bristles escape from the brush throughout that time - very impressive. The brush washed up incredibly well, but you had to take time to ensure all of the paint was out. The wax brush I washed with warm water and dish soap which also worked really well.

These style of brushes have definitely made a difference to the paint finish with less...
