Covert Police Detectives Unit Series Book 1: Undercover Amish

J. Weiss: UNDERCOVER AMISH is the first book in the COVERT POLICE DETECTIVES UNIT series and I enjoyed it so much that I've already bought the next book in the series. Ashley Emma is a new to me author, having only read a book of Amish prayers previously, but I look forward to reading more of her books.

This is Olivia's story along with an old boyfriend, Isaac. She left her Amish past behind after her life seemed to take a wrong turn and has become an Englischer as well as a detective. When she's sent back to her old hometown she's not expecting some of the feelings she experiences. She's not as she seems since she is there to do a job especially when crimes against property and people are on the rise.

There were tears along with heartwarming and heartbreaking moments. There was also a feeling of dread and much anxiety as the perpetrator kept committing criminal acts and making some of it personal. There was a good flow to the story as well as a depth to some of the characters and the story. There is closure with the solving of the crimes and I was totally invested in the story. I can't wait to see what Olivia and her fellow detectives are up to next.

A former boyfriend might be a target, so part of her job will be protecting him. Olivia can’t think of anywhere she’d rather be less than her old community, but she goes and does what she has to do. Will it be enough, though? Can she catch the killer and return to her old life, or will things be changed forever?
This was a really good book with a lot of fast-paced action. I couldn’t put it down once I started.

Helen: The Undercover Amish is book one in A Covert Police Detective Unit series. Detective Olivia Mast grew up in an Amish community in Maine. While there she witnessed her family’s home being burned down with her family inside and she was terribly abused by her husband. After his death she left the Amish community and became a police detective. She vowed never to return to the Amish community but is sent there when a murder and other incidents are reported.

The Amish do not report legal situations. They leave it in God’s control, so Olivia has to convince the community she wants to come back so they will talk with her. The person she is sent to protect just happens to be an old boyfriend.

This is a really good book! It is filled with action and suspense. Yet it still contains the simple life the Amish live, one filled with faith. The characters and communities are well introduced. This is the first Amish detective story I have read and I was so drawn into it that I kept reading the series. Olivia and her husband are briefly introduced in the prequel, The Amish Schoolteacher’s Escape. The author has written these books so they do not need to be read in order. But...

Olivia’s dedication to her work is impressive. Though expected from her to do her job correctly, she has to confront her past and all the hurts that go with it. Being the strong character she is, Olivia not only solves even more than was asked of her and comes out stronger. It was beautiful to read about Isaac’s love for her. He loved every facet of her personality, even though she did not fit the ideal image of an Amish woman. The story is highly captivating and well written. Once I started, I could barely stop reading. Hopefully, you will enjoy reading this book as much as I did ☺.

Jansoocan: A good book. It shows good Christian values not in just words but in action. The characters live it, they don't just talk about it.Yes there is a little bit of violence in the book as there is in most mysteries but it is a necessary part of the story. It is briefly described and over quickly. I would recommend this book to anyone.
And the best thing to find after turning that last page is a preview of the next book in the series. It's good to know that more books are coming.

Louisa: I love all novels set against some sort of Amish backdrop as I am just fascinated by the way of life. This was a really good, light read with interesting characters that I rooted for. I’m looking forward to reading more.
