Monica Drew: I love this cookbook. The first time I have ever read a cookbook for more than just the recipes. It has some very valuable tips about questions to ask your cancer support team. I am on a tight budget so when I get the ingredients I will have to buy the cheaper stuff and wash thoroughly or find some cheaper substitutes for spices and flour and sugar, just Google that. Overall very thorough for healthy cooking to fighting cancer.

Amazon Customer: If you like your food to taste good , this cookbook is for you. It's recipes , also, help you fight cancer, she includes the science of how. The section on cancer-fighting ingredients is priceless- foods and spices. I learned which help with digestion and which are anti-inflammatory. Simply Organic spices are what most people buy who buy this book- great flavor-cannot go wrong. Also of great help is "Scared Rest" by Saundra Dalton-Smith, MD. Healing from cancer takes an incredible amount of rest. Two other helpful books are "Cancer My Homeopathic Method" and "A Homeopathic Approach to Cancer", both by A. U. Ramakrishnan.

Kimbeeshopper: I like everything about it! Fresh, healthy, accessible foods that are simple to prepare. Most would be enjoyed by all but the pickiest of eaters. Great for supporting cancer patients & rest of family! Broth recipes that can be made ahead in bulk, then divided & frozen for easy & fast future meal prep by patient or caregivers. A section of soup recipes included that use the broths as an ingredient. Variety of offerings for easy make ahead foods for patients to have on-hand options, depending on appetite, symptoms & side effects. Indicates how long foods will keep in refrigerator & freezer. Offers advice for foods & recipes to help manage side effects, grouped by problems in a certain convenient section. High grade nutritional support especially suited to provide optimal vitamins & minerals from foods. Vitamin & mineral supplements are generally contra-indicated for cancer patients in treatment as they are believed to work against treatment & decrease effectiveness of both radiation & chemo treatment, as advised by our oncology & radiation providers. Uses lots of fresh herbs-great time to plant some in your garden. Organics preferred...

T. Lemons: I bought this book because a friend of mine is going through treatments and I wanted to help. I started by trying out some of the recipes to test them as I have a rather fragile stomach and am not a big eater. Firstly, every recipe have tried so far has been amazing. So fresh and flavorful, food you feel good eating. The reason I did not give it full stars is that although it is true that if you have all the "base" ingredients prepared and on hand (like the soup stock) many recipes can be made fairly simply, if you are the Patient and not the Caregiver, the recipes can seem like too much work.
Having said that, I am not someone who usually takes time to cook for themselves but I have found all of these recipes well worth the effort and have me looking for more ways to incorporate clean eating into my life.

HA: This was recommended to me as a healthy cookbook with tasty recipes - which it is - so I bought it although no-one in my circle has cancer. However, it's written for Americans, which means that quantities are only in cups and oven temperatures are only in Fahrenheit. Added to that, the recipes, which look quite quick and easy to prepare at first glance, have ingredients such as 'freshly minced' or 'finely diced' or 'cooked' so none of the prepping is included in the dish! The first chapters are very helpul, explaining the values of many ingredients - which is useful whether ot not you have cancer - and there are some interesting toppings to add to basic recipes. I've tried one recipe (the chickpea burgers which weren't amazing) with tomato mint chutney (which was very tasty) but I won't be using this book regularly. For the British market it needs to give weights in grams (even lbs and oz would be more helpful than cups!) and oven temperatures in centigrade and gas mark to avoid having to mess about with calculating weights and temperatures beforehand!!

Cat: I am so glad I discovered Rebecca Katz! This updated cookbook is the most reasonable "eating and cancer" book I've seen yet. It actually imparts knowledge about different food ingredients and why they are helpful and healthful. In comparison, I bought a cookbook from the American Cancer Society and was appalled to see the main protein sources were just tons of cheese or milk and the majority of recipes were very high in sugar (as much as 52g per serving!) While I understanding that some days of the treatment cycles will necessitate a focus on amount of calories over quality of calories, I think Katz's book provides great options for getting quality food calories in all situations. There are pages with table format references to recipes by side effect symptom (ie constipation, sore mouth etc.) AND general, related health considerations (such as inflammation and blood sugar regulation). The extensive information provided in addition to the recipes is well written, interesting, current and very useful! The photographs that accompany some dishes are beautiful and the layout is nice. Nutritional information is included with each recipes (I would have preferred a table format to...

2Kids1Car: What a great book. I got it when I was diagnosed with lung cancer and wanted something to help on the nutrition side. This book gave me that and more. A great amount of information around the nutrition side of cancer, foods that help. The recipes are great - have not tried anywhere near all of them but the ones so far have been incredibly tasty and well received by my family as well. The Magic Mineral Broth is a regular in our freezer, as are the Go Anywhere bars and the Carrot Fennel soup.
So glad I found this book.
