Choyang: Bought as a gift for someone who's very much into the "Downton Abbey" BBC/PBS series, and subsequent films.
So, I looked through it although haven't read all of it in detail, and it looks great!

A big plus for fans of this series because of the wonderful photos, and the stories about the series!

ChrisC: it loses a star because it is clearly aimed at the American market. The measurements and much of the terminology is American although British modern equivalents are quoted, seemingly grudgingly. Downtown Abbey is set in England NOT America and the recipe instructions should reflect this! The dishes themselves are English and contain many traditional favourites hence the award of the four stars.

TDHokey: First off I have to say Thank you to the seller, HPB Diamond. I bought used and the condition was listed as "Very Good", and it is. But more importantly, when I bought (Nov. 11th) they said to expect delivery between Nov. 22nd--25th. I received it on Nov. 18th! So Thank You for such super fast delivery!
I love this cookbook!. True, I won't be making a lot of these recipes, but the ones I will make will be tasty AND have a connection to one of my most favourite shows. I hope to do Mrs. Patmore proud!
This is a great book for any Downton Abbey fan. As an unexpected bonus there are great pictures throughout. Of the recipes (of course) but also from the show! I have more I could say, but like Mr. Carson, I won't be prolix and just say once more this is a great book!

NancyNancy: I bought the Official Downton Abbey Cookbook last week, and cooked from it yesterday.
To begin with, these are the recipes I made:

Oysters au Gratin
Lobster Cutlets
Sole à la Florentine
Raspberry Meringues (aka Pavlovas)
Champagne Jelly

I made all of these the same day, for the same dinner, to essentially create a ‘Downton Abbey Dinner for Two.’
None of the recipes were exceptionally difficult, and if I had been making these individually (not on the same day), I think I would have felt they were extremely manageable.

Doing them all in the same 8-hour period required a little work and planning, since I don’t have a kitchen staff to assist me. I do have my husband and Dachshund…but they’re more help than hindrance ( they mean well).

In a nutshell, I liked all of the dishes.

There are things I would have done differently – less sauce on my fillets, making sure my fruit didn’t bob to the top of the mold (or what ends up being the bottom)– maybe my fruit pieces were sliced too thin and hence too light?

I also had to put the jelly in the freezer for an hour because I didn’t see the part about the jelly being...
