Pluto:
This edition is so much better than the Comptia books. It covers information that isn’t in CompTIA books but IS on the test.
Makes the material simpler to understand as well. Passed my exam after about two weeks with this book. Versus failing after about 6 months with the other.

Anthony Lewis:
I passed the PK0-004 today after using the book to cram all night. I was previously employed as a project coordinator and am currently a project manager so am familiar with a lot of the concepts and terms. I must say that you do not want to do like I did and cram all night; it's better to read through this book and do the included practice exams over the course of a few weeks. However, I was pressed for time so that's how I did it. One thing I appreciated is the way the author reinforces topics with reminders about previously learned concepts as you progress through the reading. This is also a good stopping point on your way to studying for the PMP since a lot of concepts are from the PMBOK.
I have used Sybex books for Network+, Security+, and CCNA exams and they have never let me down.

sxp: Love these series books of CompTIA study guides. Nice easy clear concise overview of material. Provides a nice simple PM framework to apply to your everyday IT PM work for smaller projects. Combining this nice framework overview with my small business IT PM experience and had no problems passing the exam. But rest assured it is a difficult and tricky exam with many, very subjective based PM decision "choose the best answer or next step" thinking questions. The book cannot really help you pass these types of decision making trees that are in the majority of the exam questions. Very, very few questions were based on memorizing facts. My experience and intuition ultimately got me through the exam which was CompTIA's objective on having an "experienced based" exam vs pure book smarts.

I'll get straight to the point. I needed to get the CompTIA Project+ certification for work. I bought this guide and read it cover-to-cover, did all of the chapter quizzes, and logged into the web interface and did the sample quizzes and flashcards. I'm not the greatest test taker but I still managed to pull a 777 (710 is the minimum passing score) and get my certification!
This book is a great guide and a straight forward read. The author puts everything in plain speak. While the questions are "in the spirit" of the ones on the exam, they are not identical. In reality, you will still have to do your due diligence and know the information. That being said, this is a great place to start.

Scott V: This book helped me a lot. I had a very base knowledge of PM terms and functions when I got this book and started studying. If you just study this book, in my opinion you will probably have enough to pass, though I found the actual test questions to be a bit more difficult than what is contained in this book. I used this book as my main study guide but also had CERTMASTER and Pocket Prep as additional guides. Although I read here and there that this cert was pretty easy (which I didn't find it to be), I didn't want to leave any doubt. In my opinion, this book puts down a very solid foundation to pass the test, I just found it a bit more beneficial to have additional options.

A comprehensive study guide. As a student new to the Project+ exam (but not new to Sybex books, project management, or CompTIA exams) I had a fair idea of the structure, requirements, and how to approach both this subject and study.
This is a horribly dry subject matter; I can't blame the authors for failing to to set the world alight while I read the contents of this - and it is a cover-to-cover read, requiring highlighting, note-taking, and re-reading the more convoluted concepts. The errata for the book is useful, and pleasingly for this title, quite minimal. You can find this on the publisher website.
I would recommend this along with real-world experience and some guided practice questions as enough to pass the Project+ exam. If you haven't done any real-world project management and have nothing to map concepts to, then you may struggle and require either further experience or more extensive study materials.

Jaydeetee: This study guide is superb. If you are doing the CompTIA course and exam this will help no end. I haven't actually read it cover to cover as I've only had it a few days but I have looked at enough of it in detail to see that it is a comprehensive and clearly written guide to the course and will be of real help to me as I complete the course and work towards taking the exam. I totally recommend it.
