JavaMama: This was purchased as a gift for an art lover but the huge stickers stuck on the back cover make it look discounted and cheap. I tried to remove them but the adhesive was insane! The tacky residue is now worse than the eyesore of the stickers! I wish marketers would think about the aesthetics of books that are purchased for shipping, many of the items are purchased for display and shouldn’t have stickers with scan codes plastered all about them or thrown in a shipping box to tumble about while in transit.

WitlessProtectionProgram: I collect art books! :) But I bought it for my lil sis who’s a HUGE Invader Zim fan for their graduation/birthday present. (They graduated high school on their birthday!) I always liked it myself growing up so I actually really enjoyed browsing the book.
It has pages upon pages of concept artwork, animation cells, interviews, even some of the creator’s (I know his name but it is late and my brain is mush) earliest drawings and concepts of Zim. There is also a lot of technical drawings for backgrounds, penciling, and animation stills as well is character sheets from the series and from the film. There is even pages dedicated to the many whacky background characters, aliens, and monsters. And there are concepts for the show that never made it in or are better explained.
It is packed with content from the first page to the last with a protective, sleek hardcover. The book itself presents all the content well in an organized and straightforward fashion. An absolute MUST for any Invader Zim fan and definitely an awesome addition to anyone interested in animation history, comics, or cartoons! I believe there’s also a short bonus comic at the end! :)

Alleykat: Literally the best behind the scenes, concept art in a book I've ever read. Extremely well put together, content-rich. Super intriguing view points & thought processes. The art itself is a whole nother' ball park with amazing attention to detail. Highly recommend buying, fantastic addition to any book collection or inspiring artist!

Jay: Bought this for my partner as she's a massive Invader Zim fan- she LOVED it!
It's a great book and well made and she tells me that the quality is perfect as is all the art inside.

Isa: I've been a fan of Zim forever, and I was really disappointed there wasn't an art book until I learned about about a year ago. Of course it only released a few months ago I think, but I couldn't wait to get it. And it did not disappoint!
The overall structure of the book follows a timeline of Jhonen Vasquez's career through comics, beginning in high school with Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, it also talks about his other comics like Squee! and briefly touches on his others. It's followed by how he came to work for Nickelodeon, and what it was like working on the show, with quotes from Jhonon, people who worked for the network, and the people who worked on the show. They talk a lot about the visual identity of Invader Zim, the sound design, how cinematic it was, and it targets in on the philosophy of the humor, which is really nice. It really just talks about all the elements and puts into words of why Invader Zim became a cult classic sort of show. That's the bulk of the book, but there's also later portions which talk about the backgrounds of the show. Finally, it talks about the Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus movie, and why it was different than the original series, how it...

Nikki: I just started reading today and, wow, has this book brought back some memories. Amazing to see so many of the original sketches, concept art, and backgrounds for the TV show, as well as images from the movie and comics. Very in-depth with lots of comments from the show's creator! Would highly suggest this book for any avid fan of the television series or those interested in its production process.

TheoTheo: I unfortunately didn’t grow up with Invader Zim. I’ve only been an Invader Zim fan for about 7 years now. But regardless, this book has everything I could want as a fan! Interesting interviews, gorgeous artwork, and never before revealed information about the production of the series, comics and movie makes this book a must read! I am very pleased at just how much this book covers in regards to the production of the series. There’s even art and information about the unfinished episodes! More than a few of the art books I’ve read previously are mostly pictures with barely any words. That’s fortunately not the case here. While there is a lot of pictures, there’s still a ton of information to read and you never get the feeling that there’s too much/not enough pictures or words. There’s a pretty good balance of both. This book is a hefty 240 pages. In case anyone was wondering, the majority of the book discusses the original Invader Zim series. Only around 30 pages discuss the movie, while about 15 pages are dedicated to the comics and approximately 10 pages talk about Jhonen’s work prior to Invader Zim. But whether you’ve been a fan for over a decade or only...
