Risa Reads: Editing errors continue to plague this series, and so I have lowered my rating again. The butler, Mr. Dilke is written as "Dukes", with an umlaut added for good (bad) measure!
Ms. Perry continues to bring her stories climax to an almost abrupt conclusion, with little further explanation. Other authors I've been reading in this genre, Patricia Wentworth's Miss Silver series and Ngaio Marshes Roderick Alleyn books also have this quirk-although not to the extent that Perry ends her books. While a little rereading can clarify some of my confusion, there are some loose ends in her plots.

Natalie J. Slater: I have read them all, each as they came out years ago, listened to them all, and now have started over with Charlotte and Thomas. I'm also listening to the Monk books again, this time with my husband, who is enjoying them very much. I love her attention to detail and character development, especially.

JERZEYBOY: I am addicted to this series for several important reasons. I love learning about an era that is so foreign to my experience; the legal and social issues of the times. And I am particularly enamored of Perry's twists and turns of plot. I am an avid mystery reader who prides himself for his ability to pre-solve the motives and identify the prime antagonist. Having now read half the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series, I should be there by now. Not necessarily so with this series; Anne Perry consistantly, though not always, surprises me!

Hargreaves: I really enjoy Anne Perry's Tomas Pitt mysteries. She's terrific at creating believable characters with excellent dialogue unlike a lot of
novelists. Undoubtedly two of the reasons she's a constant seller.
Oh, she slips up once in a while, not surprising given the amount of books she writes. For me, the most glaring slip up is in the age and personality of Aunt Vespasia who has undergone a personality change for the better from the stern old biddie in the start to a more witty human who has also gotten younger in years over the years.
Vespasia was 80 at the start and at the end is much younger and has married Victor Narraway. Don't get me wrong, I love that marriage, but it beggars the imagination. If she starts at 80 years old, and marries Victor ten years later or so, she's not 90! But it's such a grand romance, we readers can look the other way at Perry's slip up.

Carobe: Very interesting and full of details about the Irish problem, but not entirely only about that topic. A sound and thorough crime story with Thomas Pitt and his people trying to solve it.

Michaeline Morrissey: This is another excellent book by Anne Perry. It is one of the books in the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series and takes place in the 1890's at the home of Charlotte's sister, Emily. Emily's husband is a member of Parliament. A meeting between the differing factions in the "Irish Problem" is being held at Emily's home. Two of men involved are murdered. It is Thomas's job, as a police superintendent, to find out who did it and why. Charlotte is also a house guest and gets involved in the investigation. As always, the ending has a twist. Anne Perry really makes her books more realistic by not using the same old "the butler did it" type of ending. I would highly recommend all of her books. She has obviously done a lot of research into the Victorian period. She really shows what life was like. I did a little checking of some of her facts after I read my first book by her. She is remarkably accurate. If you like this type of period piece please pick up one of her books. I would recommend starting from the beginning of the series as each book has references to the books that came before.
