Zach Anders: I am almost 40 years old and have never read a manga. I have watched a few anime shows but just never jumped into manga. Heard about the concept for this, read a few pages and decided to take a shot. This book is great. Really entertaining, love the artwork and characters. If you have never read manga, go ahead and take a chance with this one. I really enjoyed it and have the next couple volumes heading my way!

Gabe: Great looking art, lots of energy, and just plain silly with plenty of bloody action as well.

Emmanuel Ifediba: Chainsaw Man, Vol. 1, is a thrilling introduction to this dark and twisted manga series. From the very first page, readers are pulled into a world filled with demons, devil hunters, and a unique protagonist named Denji, who is bound to a devil named Pochita in a truly unconventional way. The volume sets the stage for an action-packed and emotionally charged journey as Denji navigates a life of hardship and makes a pact to become a devil hunter, wielding a chainsaw to combat the sinister forces lurking in the shadows.

What sets Vol. 1 apart is its raw and gritty storytelling, complemented by stunning artwork that brings the intense battles and unique characters to life. The blend of horror, humor, and heartfelt moments adds depth to the narrative, making it a gripping and multifaceted reading experience. As Denji's story unfolds, readers are taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, from heart-pounding action to genuine moments of connection and introspection. If you're a fan of dark fantasy manga that breaks the boundaries of convention, Chainsaw Man, Vol. 1, is a must-read that will leave you hungry for more of Denji's adrenaline-pumping adventures in a world filled with...

Airmid: [Minor Spoilers for the first volume]

Hear me out here. Of Fujimoto I have read the first volume of Chainsaw Man, the first two volumes of Fire Punch, and just recently Goodbye, Eri. The last is the most coherent to me, but they all seem to suffer a similar problem - they are rushed, have twists to have twists, and the first two seem to bask in shock value and fetishes to draw people in because these things exist.

Violence and adult themes are not an issue - I am currently reading Blade of the Immortal (which I like) and have read Garth Ennis in the past (not that I particularly liked how he handled his subjects). So, heavy themes and violence aren't a problem.

The problem is that the characters are shallow and barely explored. The writing is janky and reading this volume makes me feel like it's incomplete - as if I am missing about a hundred pages. I don't mind nebulous stories that build but I feel like a good amount of world-building simply will not be there later on. Things happen because they have to happen. There are Devils and we kill those, but wait, we work with them, and there's a government agency that kills these things, but also employs them, and...

Anthony RAnthony R: When Denji is betrayed by someone he trusts, he becomes permeated with the devil’s powers and unleashes them in the form of Chainsaw Man. Part human, part devil, now he has to choose between joining the government agency responsible for hunting down and killing demons, or becoming the prey himself.

The protagonist is a simple being, whose only dreams in life are clean clothes, a working toilet, and the possibility that he just might one day get to touch a boob. My teenage self can relate. However, things take a turn for the worse for Denji when he is dismembered by the Yakuza over debts owed by his father. Left for dead in a dumpster, he forms a contract with the Devil Dog Pochita, who becomes his heart. After this, he can transform into the devil-human Hybrid known as Chainsaw Man by pulling a cord on his chest. Given the subject matter, it would’ve been easy for writer Tatsuki Fujimoto to fill the pages with gory content, however the seven chapters on offer here are interlaced with humour and heart, courtesy of the likeable Denji. I have to say that I genuinely feel for him, will someone please just let him touch a boob! This isn’t a pg-13, mind. The action...

Orgone: This manga is awesome! It's the first manga I've ever read and man, what a way to be introduced to manga! It was a little bit of a process learning how to read the thing but after that I found myself laughing at this harder than I've laughed at anything in a while. The simple humor is great. It's all really great. I need more...
If you buy this, I recommend buying at least the first three at once. This one is definitely not enough. I finished it in one sitting, while eating a meal. The book lasted a little longer than the meal did. When I finished I wanted more. More book and more meal, lol. I'll definitely be getting more.
What a great story :)
