Canon CanoScan LiDE210 Scanner: High-Resolution, Compact Scanning for Photos & Documents (4508B002)

Billy Mitchell: This was a replacement for an older Canon Scanner that I had. It works well for the money, but wow, what a pain in the butt to get the scanner driver opened. Terrible, terrible, terrible interface. Did I mention the interface was terrible? Well it is.

Margarethe K.: The CanoScan LiDE210 is a neat scanner. I would have given it five stars, except for the manual, but I'll get to that in a moment. The scanner installed easily within a few minutes, it is well designed, and it works very well. It is small enough to fit even on a crowded desk, but large enough to accommodate full size pages.

The User Manual!, on the other hand, is an entirely different story. First of all, I had to search for it in my iMac in Applications-Scanning Utilities-U Manual-LiDE 210-LiDE 210.EGP. It is listed as an on on-line manual, however, it is nothing like the usual PDF document with an easily clickable Table of Contents. The manual opens up like a "Finder" window on a Mac; the subjects are listed in the left pane. Upon clicking on a particular subject, the right pane displays the explanation. Unfortunately, the print in the explanation window is so small that I cannot read it with the naked eye. Admittedly, I am elderly, but I normally still read without glasses, but not these small letters. Zooming does not help, only the white space around the windows increases; the print stays the same small size.

Bob: Overall, I am satisfied with the quality of the images relative to the overall price (you get what you pay for, after all), and that this scanner can be easily disconnected and stored away in a compact space when not in use. These were two of the three main reasons I decided on this scanner. As for the other main reason I chose this scanner, the debacle with the installation / setup and trying to get this to work with Windows 7 was a huge disappointment!

Be advised that the compatibility is listed as Windows® 7, Windows Vista®, and Windows XP/2000, however, not mentioned is that this applies only to the scanner itself. Once it arrived, I noticed that the box of the scanner indicated that while the scanner was compatible with Windows® 7, Windows Vista®, and Windows XP/2000, the enclosed software packages needed to use the scanner were indicated as compatible with Windows Vista only and NOT Windows® 7 or Windows XP/2000. I researched this scanner on several website before I ordered it, and none of them noted that the scanner and enclosed software had different operating system compatibilities.

Long story short, in order to get this to work with Windows 7 Home...
