Linnie-lou: After breaking the glass in numerous previous cafetieres I was looking for an insulated and unbreakable one this time. It is easy to use, keeps the coffee nice and hot until 'brewed' and will not suffer from being bashed or dropped and breaking as previous ones have! it looks good and is easy to clean. The seller was prompt with delivery too. Highly recommend and well worth paying a bit extra for this.

Mark: This style of cafetiere is really good and works far better than fragile glass ones, not only for sturdiness and heat retention but also for effectiveness of the filter, not allowing coffee grains through.

fizzywhippet: This was bought to replace a cheaper 12 cup cafetière we’ve had for several years. It’s only used when we have a houseful but you couldn’t put the plunger down without coffee spouting everywhere. We finally cracked over Easter and bought this. It’s the same make as our brilliant 8 cup which is in daily use. Really solid, makes good coffee which keeps hot and it will last for ever.

swimdb: This is a nice coffee press.

The 1.5 litre size is good for my purposes, compared with the one liter press I was using. I can now easily make 4 big mugs of coffee and pretend to be well equipped for social activities like a Kaffeeklatsch.

The insulated stainless aspect is good, it keeps the coffee fairly warm for a while. I have not yet dropped it but when I do I will not be rushing out to buy a new glass insert, like my previous press.

The finish on the welds is a little slack, not perfect. The grind on the inside seems a little coarse also. Maybe I will get used to that, or maybe I will run some emory cloth over that at some stage.

The lid is a little poorly designed with respect to orienting the pouring area but I am sure I will get used to that.

It took me two tries to get the correct item from the amazon seller or whoever the hell is tossing these things in cardboard boxes. First one came it and it was a different item altogether. When the second one got here it was not actually in an Amazon cardboard box at all and the product box it was in was split and just about to eject the press into the cold hard world of my driveway. I guess that...

Faith: I have a 17-oz. Frieling and my husband managed to break the knob off the plunger. I wanted a slightly bigger unit anyway, to get two decent sized cups of coffee instead of just 1+. So I ordered this unit.

When I bought it, it was half the price of the comparable-sized Frieling. Yes, it is not quite as heavy as the Frieling. It doesn't have an extra collet around the plunger. However, the fact that the knob was threaded was actually a plus for me, since breaking the Frieling required ordering new parts.

The first time I used the Grunwerg, I was amazed at how much hotter the coffee was after brewing. Note, I am comparing apples to apples: I heat the water to a precise temperature in an electric kettle. I was also amazed that it poured better than the Frieling. I like to use the coffee pot to fill the kettle, and this pouring spout was superior to the Frieling, where I would get water on the counter.

When I reviewed the Frieling awhile ago, I gave it four stars because it did not have a lid that sealed during brewing. The Grunwerg closes off the heat loss, although not entirely, and you turn the lid to get a full pour. This is the reason the coffee brews at the...

Joseph D. Mcsweeney: After breaking our second glass french press, we realized it was time to upgrade to stainless in order to save ourselves some money. We waffled for awhile between a double walled press and the Bodum Chambord press. Ultimately, we chose double walled because we wanted it to retain heat for longer and we didn't want to burn ourselves on the metal. We read reviews upon reviews of various presses on Amazon. We didn't like that the Bodum filter was part plastic and were very hesitant due to many of the mixed reviews of several of the other brands. Eventually, we decided on the Grunwerg because it seemed to have positive reviews, although not many, and the price was not outrageous.

We have been very pleased with our purchase! The press holds heat well and all the parts are metal. An unexpected plus is that our old filters and tops from our broken Bodum presses fit perfectly, giving us three separate filters! We like the fact that the top of this one is also insulated. It is very well built, has a solid handle, and does not drip when we pour our coffe.

My only complaints are that you must be careful how full you fill the press and that we had to use pliers to hold the...

Lainey R.: Not sure why this item doesn't appear in the beginning of the search results when searching under "French Press". Very, very pleased with its durability! No doubt I'm going to get a long life out of this little guy! I don't really care if it's not 100% steel as it makes no difference in temperature when I heat the press with boiling water. It actually maintains a temperature level within the extraction range, so that when I'm ready to brew, the temperature of the press is still within the extraction range and equal to the actual water I'm pouring into the press for brewing. I actually like the amount of nickel material in it as I do believe the nickel is what makes it shinny. I also love the fact there is no plastic built into it, and all of the parts are removable, which makes cleaning flawless, hence a clean cup of coffee! Previously I had a Bodum press that had a plastic handle on it. The handle had been soldered to the press. Heating the press overtime caused the press to expand & contract eventually loosening the solder and breaking the handle. I got a lot of years out of the Bodum. But I'm much more pleased with this press. My only gripe, is that the box the press came...
