This 12x42 binocular has very sharp detailed views. Only negative point is that the pop up eye cups tend to move too easily.

psychoccu1: I've had these binoculars forever 4 years now, granted I have not abused or gotten them we in the rain or anything like that but they are very rugged. They work flawlessly & the focus adjustment is smooth & crisp despite being just a little stiff which I actually like. This enables the focus to stay set where you put it even if your walking/running or traveling in a wheeler or other vehicle.

Per Mare: Fantastic... I already had a set of Bushnell H2O 8x42's and absolutely love them - the field of vision is just spectacular. I wanted something that would give me more detail so I decided to try the 12x42's. All I can say is that they are amazing. Don't be afraid of the jitters as you'll get used to handling that with proper technique. The 12x42's are every bit as nice to use as the 8x42's. I use all my binoculars for sailing and other waterborne activities. There are definitely more expensive names for binoculars in the sailing game but these are just fine. After 50 years on the water I have no issues in recommending these whatsoever. Try 'em out...

These Bins rock. Excellent clarity and Field of View. Awesome magnification, well armored (non slip Rubber). Seeing birds( or anything) at distance, I had to really hunt for distant stuff to give them a workout. Great for Moon watching (warning- they pull in light a little too well - especially if your eyes have adjusted to the dark) Have only used them for short periods at a time, so the OEM neck strap sufficed. Not sure about for prolonged use - you *MAY* want to get a strap with heavier padding. They *are* heavy, so being able to rest your elbows/forearms is a must for anything beyond a quick look. The lens caps do not attach to the bins, so extra care needed to not lose them.
Overall, I love them.
Don't worry, Dad...you getting a pair for Christmas.

Tracey J Eason-Riddle: Got this primarily to watch college football. I wear glasses and my husband doesn't. He just quickly adjusts the eyecup and is able to see at same settings as I had it. I first thought they might be too strong, but there is enough adjustment capability no matter where you sit. I believe a previous reviewer said there is less shakiness with these and I agree. We had a smaller, more compact pair and I never liked them that much. These are worth the extra bulk, as they are NOT rated as compact. They are a little heavier, for games where I'm not constantly holding them up, though this was not an issue. I also really like the grip. You can tell by the picture there is some texture on these, well they grip great. I'm sure when we watch football in the rain, that will help. Also, we will be at games which are 90 degrees, so for sweaty hands, the grip will be helpful. The strap for the bag is crappy, but the strap for the binoculars has some cushion. I am a beginner at binoculars, glad I focused on the eye relief, which I read about but didn't fully understand until I literally saw the difference. Just for that and the water proof, get this line, you won't...
