The suction cup bottom helps keep your hands free when you’re wrestling your baby into a diaper too. I actually use the base to stick it on my forehead to help distract my kids when I’m changing them, granted I’m not using it for cream, and they find it entertaining LOL.

Fanny Lapierre: It's not necessary but it's practicle enough that we ordered one to try it. Definetly less messy than using your fingers. The thing that disapointed me was the suction power. It doesn't stick very much and when it does, it goes off rapidly. I bought it especially because it could stay upright. I could have just bought a small ruber spatula at the dollar store and I think it would do the same.
Otherwise, it does the job done.
