Brother HL-L2300D: Monochrome Laser Printer for Professional Quality Prints

Hans Joyce: We bought the printer to replace an inkjet because the Brother printer is such an inexpensive alternative for black and white printing. Almost all our printing is b&w.
We just bought the 2305. Early impressions are all positive. Various fonts in various sizes are perfectly sharp even with the resolution lowered from 600 dpi to 300. The first page takes a little time but subsequent pages come fast. Being able to load a full ream of paper is convenient and toner cartridges do thousands of pages. Duplex printing is not available but turning the page over and printing the second side is simple when duplex for one page is needed.
As reported by others, setup can be a Sunday afternoon activity. I bought a printer cable as a reviewer suggested – a good idea. Set up is harder because the few control buttons on the printer have meaningless labels. The tiny LCD screen shows only a word or two. I confess two obvious errors that may save others time. Once the drivers are installed from the CD, disconnect the USB cable before any other steps. Marion: So far this printer works great! It was a replacement for a Cannon, which crumpled almost every sheet of paper and then jammed. The only drawback is that it only prints with black toner, no color, but that's mostly what I print anyway.

Agustin Aggio: The printer is amazing, easy to install and to use. I can't believe Brother's decided not to include the USB cable with the product. You need it to use the printer, it's not an extra accessory.

Eric: Voy a hablar desde el muy particular uso que le estoy dando. Tiendo a imprimir gráficos, dibujo a línea. El asunto es que necesito la máxima resolución ofertada en la descripción de la máquina, pero si la uso, la maquina me avisa que he saturado la memoria de la impresora, por lo queme veo obligado a bajar la resolución de mis trabajos a la mitad. Probablemente el problema no se presentaría igual a usuarios que no trataran de imprimir archivos extensos a la mayor resolución posible. Pero yo me sentí defraudado.
Obviamente si el uso es para imprimir archivos de texto o en los que prolifere el texto, el problema no se presentaría y la máquina tendría un buen desempeño- Si eres un usuario con mis necesidades, definitivamente sugeriría comprar una impresora de mayor capacidad. En resumen; en la práctica no me dio la resolución máxima ofrecida.

Lotus54: I made the leap from inkjet to laser with this purchase. This is my first laser printer and I can't for the life of me figure out why I didn't switch sooner. I asked my friends on social media what a good inexpensive printer would be for someone like me who doesn't print much. That's when a friend said if I don't print much I should get a laser printer instead because it's powder instead of liquid ink. I somehow made it halfway through life without ever knowing that! Then I read about how much longer the ink lasts vs inkjet cartridges AND how much more environmentally friendly they are, and I was sold.

I was happy to find this Brother for a very reasonable price. My last two printers were Brother and I was always very happy with them, so I was partial to this brand already. I decided to save some much-needed cash and get this monochrome model because I realized that 98% of what I print is black & white text documents anyway. And it's that much less to buy for refills.

Lincoln County MT: I bought to use with foiling and paper crafting. Hubby decided to upgrade from his 1996 HP monochrome laser to an expensive color laser and he refused to let me buy generic toner drums for it and continue to use the old and true. However it did have some probems as it did not handle cardstock well. In the end rather than fight it I ordered this rather older model though still being made brother laser monocolor printer. And it has not let me down. As cheap as some of it feels overall it's wonderful. My two favorite things is it is a SMALL FOOT PRINT working next to my huge 19" color inkjet printer it's tiny. And it allows me to do straight passes which so far have accepted all cardstocks I've tried. I used a color 110# card stock and both 65 and 85 special smooth extra white cardstock I buy here on Amazon and everyone printed well and then laminated well when foiling. Extremely happy. Did I mention the TINY size. I intend to travel with this gem in a class b mini motor home so to speak and so continue to enjoy my hobby on the road trips too.
