How do I miss thee?
Let me count the ways:
I miss your little perf’d dots
that rip with satisfying precision
to the limits of your strength
and perhaps beyond.
I miss the warm comfort of your chubby roll
when, from time to time, I spill things and saucepans fail
with a thud, a tug, a gentle splat.

I miss the cheery and bibulous you
that scrubs my floors and helps my kitchen to function
when kids have dragged it down.

I step outside to clear my head,
for the heat of quarantine lingers in my room
heavy, as if to echo my heart,
and find that the COVID sweeps down
with ungentle fears lol’ing as it feels
the longing of my heart at this parting.

For though I am not yet infective,
the knowledge that it lurks makes me feel
as though the cleaning was too long ago
and though I know in my head that it will be
only a short time in weeks that you are gone
my soul feels the weight of it as if
those weeks might be years.

I miss thee with all my being
for you complete me
in ways that Brawny can not express.
And so I wait the appointed hour
