I have been using this detergent for a couple of years now, because I finally got fed up with the Cascade scent permeating all my plastic and silicone kid items.
Based off my experience of this cleans just as well as the various pods on the market, but without the smell, and allows the ability to use less detergent when you need to. For example, we have very soft water, so I find that I only need less than half a tablespoon per load.
UPDATE 1: I noticed some powdery soap residue on plastic dishes, so had to start using a rinse aid.
UPDATE 2: after using this for several months our dishwasher developed a locker room stink and layer of pink slime growing on the filter, likely due Serratia marcescens, a bacteria. I suspect this natural soap doesn't do as good a job of killing off bacteria as our previous detergent.

Good stuff. This is one (more) solution to a healthy lifestyle! -warning lots of info and a soap box will be involved!
Recent studies (late 2022) show what some of us have experienced for years; illness from detergents and cleansers that have been synthesized to breakdown membrane walls, so less mechanical effort is needed, and therefore remove conventionally manufactured and processed foods, including meat.
Note this product isn’t “made” for easy cleaning of conventionally manipulated fats. It works best w fats which are minimally processed and sustainably raised. Conventional practices create changes in fat etc through mass produced grain fed animals. Test it for yourself…grass fed & finished cleans up easily. Which follows that it is also broken down and digested and metabolically utilized w greater efficiency as well. There are studies on that as well.
Rinse agents and detergents designed for removing the residue of modern foods, especially those recommended by manufacturers of newer eco friendly dishwashers cause health/ecological problems because of the chemicals they require for less water and lower temps.
Not only...

Exactly what I was looking for. We had dishes coming out with an unpleasant taste no matter what we tried. We even got a new dishwasher. The problem wasn't the dishwasher. It was the pods. (We were using the recommend Cascade brand platinum pods.)
The very first load switching to Biokleen the issue was solved.
You can prewash with hand washing soap or not. Either way, the dishes come out perfectly clean and with no soapy residue.
PS : I hate how professional appliance mechanics and plumbers can come into your kitchen, disrupt your life, and still misdiagnose the problem. Really? Some guy just looking it up online for 5 minutes can do a better job than the pros at finding a solution?? We had three or four visits from mechanics and plumbers and they were all wrong. I found the right solution myself on my first investigation. The solution was changing the dishwashing detergent.

Skatejorer:
I have used this product for years and years - in two different residences.
I am a big believer, and it does not require much product, just a half teaspoon in each compartment. My prior home and our new home both had salt-based water softeners and this product worked great. We removed the water softener in our new home and went with a salt-free water softener which frankly does not work. Our hardness is 120+ and this product now leaves a white film and residue inside the dishwasher and on the dishes and flatware.
I am disappointed that this no longer works well for us. I have easily used it for 15 or more years. It never left a perment milky film on our glassware and always did an excellent job. I changed to a different product that is working much better, shockingly so. If Biokleen does not work for you it may not be the product, it may be the hardness of your water. If you have softened water, then this works great!

Kathleen Hamon: I thought it left a slight film on my glasses, but other than that, it was okay.
