BigAlex Lightweight Forearm Crutches for Arm Support

Monster: The tips on these are so hard. They're awful. I upgraded to smart crutches recently and they are a million times better than these. I also received two diffent colored pink cruches. One was a pale pink the other a darker pink. So, they don't even match. Not great!

Matthew Asay: I'm unfortunate in that I broke my ankle and will spend six weeks on crutches. I'm fortunate in that this is all the time I'll spend on crutches. Keep this in mind when reading my review: I won't spend a lifetime using crutches.

For my purposes (get around the house/town, travel), these Big Alex forearm crutches are great. They're lightweight, sturdy, easy to stash (they fold in half, which came in handy on a work trip), and the open cuff makes it easy to quickly grab them and go (no time spent sliding my arm down into a closed loop, or trying to figure out which crutch to use based on an ergonomic handle). I also bought some In Motion crutches that I thought would be my go-to crutches (ergonomic handle, mostly closed cuff, spring), but every time I have to choose, I default to these Big Alex crutches. They're simply easier to use, and just as comfortable. (Actually, they're more comfortable in some situations: the spring action on the In Motion crutches makes navigating steeper stairways difficult - it's like using a pogo stick on stairs.)

Cwren1022Cwren1022: These things are amazing. I bought them as last year I had a left leg amputation and have been stuck in a wheelchair for over a year and a half. Decided a few weeks ago that I wanted a way to get up out of the chair for a bit so decided to bite the bullet and get these crutches. Man I'm glad I did.

Pros.
Lightweight, inexpensive, adjustable, long enough for 6'4" me, comfortable, easy to use, fold in half for portability, no underarm pain associated with standard crutches.

Cons.
For skinny guys like myself with weaker forearms from being in a powered wheelchair for over a year they are a bit difficult to use. Bit too big in the cuffs so can't really guarantee that they will lock your arms in correctly. The hard plastic is only decent for comfort. I recommend if you get them to find some of the accessories that have padding and straps. Overall though that's my only complaint with em so far and it's not a design flaw of the product itself being set for universal use but more of a preference. I highly recommend, whether using temporarily for a broken leg or permanently for a missing one to give these a shot. The price of about $45 for a pair isn't bad at all. Ive...
