MeanPen: If your old funnel looks a bit battered and the brew process has become noisy and takes longer and the coffee tastes "burnt" then you may benefit from a new funnel! (Well check the seal too)...
This size of "funnel" is more easily dented than the bigger ones. As it deforms it tends to shrink and thus does not sit right up at the top of the pot part so the rubber seal does not seal the funnel properly and thus the water brew process can bubble and take longer with a more burnt taste to the brew.
