I have been using this device daily for at least two years to connect a Windows laptop to the VGA port on a large screen, via the mini HDMI port on the laptop. It has worked flawlessly. The setup obviously requires a VGA cable also.

This adapter does its job. I bought it to connect a Raspberry Pi Zero W. Good quality materials, especially the cable wich is quite flexible and durable in appearance. It’s not exceptional, it’s just an adapter but highly recommended to give a second life for that monitor that you have abandoned.

I got this to connect a digital camera to an external monitor, and while it will display picture and video while in review mode on my camera (which isn't what I got it for), it will not display anything when the viewfinder is live, i.e. it doesn't show me what the camera is looking at in real time (which is what I got it for).
Maybe I got the wrong tool for the job, but will be returning.
