Chris: Being from Louisiana, I feel like it was well seasoned (for freeze dried food) and relatively close to actual red beans and rice. That being said it's obviously not the same thing. But it takes zero effort to prepare. Zero clean up. And somewhat filling. Although I wouldn't plan on feeding two people with these 2 servings. That's not realistic. Almost every freeze dried meal I've had indicates what normally amounts as too much water. This was no exception. Even with 2.25 cups (calls for 2.5) it was too soupy. I'd try 2 next time. Overall a good meal rivalling my favorites from mountain house. It would be very good supplemented with sausage and peppers. Good to have in the "survival closet" for sure!

Amazon Customer: This so good. Great taste and just the right amount of spiciness. It calls for 2 1/2 cups of water, but based on past experience with these kinds of freeze dried products, I used 2 cups and that was perfect. I'm also at about 400 feet of altitude at home. I let this sit for about 6 minutes and then stirred it up and let it sit for a total of 20 minutes. The consistency was terrific and it was still hot. As soon as I'm finished with this review, I'm buying more!

ALS_Warrior: Loved it, 2 thumbs up, great flavor alone but we added sausage cut up to it which made it even better to us. I bought more since I bought this one to try. Also, I didn't get a Discount &/or Paid for my review here so this is just straight honesty from a 35 yr old ALS Patient here in Alabama. Great experience all around. Make sure you do follow the directions exactly but it's very easy & quick to make with no loss of flavor. We added some sausage to ours but I do that with the one's we buy in the stores & it has enough flavor to it on its own because we didn't add any spices or herbs to it at all.

Gwenny: I have never tried dehydrated meals before, but I will be backpacking/ hiking The Narrows this August. So I bought these to try at home beforehand to ensure it would be good on the trail. It was easy to make, obviously compact and light weight, and surprisingly tasty! If you prefer completely bland meals, this is not for you. It isn't super spicy, but does have a tiny kick to it. I will be bringing two meals nonetheless, just to make sure I am not still hungry after that intense hike, so this will make an excellent side or second meal. Bonus, it's VEGAN!

E. McKee: One of the toughest challenges when buying long-term food for storage and camping is finding dishes that taste good, are gluten free and come in a #10 can. Success! As usual, we used 1/4 less water and, since it's beans, let it sit for almost twice the package time. The result is a thick, spicy meal that wouldn't be ashamed to hang out in New Orleans. I can eat anything, but the family member who is gluten intolerant fell on this with cries of hungry joy. It may be a bit on the spicy side for some palates (mine), but can be tamed with sour cream. I bet sausage crumbles would be delicious too. Add some cheese and cornbread if you're eating at home.
