Automatic Post-Mounted Gravity Lever Gate Latch for Self-Locking Wood Fences

It arrived in one day, installed in 5 mins (I'm not handy), and it works amazingly. It's super heavy-duty so there is absolutely no chance of this product bending over time. 100% thumbs up (and this is the first review I've ever written).

Farquar1000: I ordered this latch with another item and ended up having to order twice. The original shipment was returned to shipper (Amazon?) due to damage in transit and never arrived. After waiting for Amazon to sort this out, I reordered. Both items arrive in a timely fashion. This latch was exactly what I needed, installed without fuss and securely latches my gate exactly as I needed. It also allows easy opening from each side and the ability to attach a lock on either side of the gate. Very pleased

Morgan: The gate latch seems to be quite heavy duty and of good quality but the small self tapping screws/fasteners provided with the latch are completely useless. The self tapping end is the same diameter as the thread which completely reams out the hole ahead of the thread so there is no material left for the thread to hold. The fasteners are also much too short, only about 5/8" of thread. The proper fasteners are 1/4" or even 5/16" x 1 1/2" long lag screws. Latch would most typically be used on a wood gate so self tapping screws are not necessary and wrong application.

Steven in CanadaSteven in Canada: The hardware is pretty heavy duty and works well. I bought this because I wanted to lock my gate on the inside. However my hinges were on the right side of an out-swing gate (a right hand door). The latch comes assembled for a left-hand door. In order to use the locking feature you would have to install the latch upside down.. (see first picture)

If you reverse the latch by undoing the bolt, and flipping the latch part over, and moving the spring from top to bottom, then you can no longer lock the gate on the inside using the long extension piece. This is not fully reversible like some other latches. The extension piece should be centered on the latch in order to be truly reversible. I decided to swap my hinges and changed from a right-hand-swing gate to a left-hand-swing gate.

If the latch is installed on a 4x4 post, you can only lock the latch on the inside of the gate on the long extension - the 4x4 post obstructs the other possible locking holes. (See pictures).

Would have given this 5 stars if this was lockable when reversed. The latch is impressive enough that I bought a second one for my other gate
