Amazon Customer: The story of Lestat over the course of his adventures through time cover a lot of terroritory. This one is exceptional as it covers Lestat meeting the Devil who tells his tale to Lestat, his beef with God and what happens to the damned.

Cliente Amazon: The book shows no sign of usage however, there are some chapter missing (from 7 to 10; from 18 to 20)

Ashleigh: I really liked this take on the Devil and why he is against God and discovering his side of events. This was also really easy to read and had me getting through the book at a really nice pace.
However, I did find this was too conversation based and seemed nothing was really happening.

Chris 07-21: How I waited for this book in 1995! Then I would've given it 5 stars ...

Why 4 stars now? I guess because Memnoch's presentation to Lestat went on too long.

But so much was magnificent: Rice's snowy New York; Roger and Lestat in the bar; New Orleans!

Still debating what book will be reread #4 ...

Kirston: Anne Rice’s Memnoch the Devil is as thrilling as it is exhausting, and when Lestat’s parting words are “Let me pass now from fiction into legend” the reader is willing to allow the vampire to disappear into the night without complaint (Rice 434). By the conclusion of the novel, Rice has caused her readers as well as her vampire Lestat to be ready to be done with the insanity of the events. Constantly, Rice challenges the reader’s perceptions of events, and by the end one is unsure if everything that has happened is real or if Lestat is having a mental breakdown. Lestat’s visions of Hell and Heaven are often dreamlike and his meeting up with other characters afterwords feel disjointed as if the main character is abruptly coming back to reality. However, the most shocking element of the story is the sheer apathy of Lestat at the end of the novel. Throughout The Vampire Chronicles, Lestat has been a character that bounces back and is ready for the next disaster in his immortal life to occur. At the end of Memnoch the Devil, the reader is left unsure about Lestat's mental health and if the vampire will ever recover, and for a character that readers have grown to love,...

Superkid: Long time Anne Rice reader, but I have waited many years to get to this one. I've heard MANY great things about the book. I tried to lower my expectations. Honestly, I found the book to be just ok. I wanted to read a dark subject matter so I went back to Anne Rice. I love the character Lestat, but in this book he really takes a passive role. *SPOILERS AHEAD*
What I did not like: I did not like the first 30% of the book, which follows Lestat's prey Roger and Roger's daughter Dora. I could care less about those characters or their story. I felt it really dominated the first portion of the book to no end. I was like "Ok, get to the REAL story!". After reading, I still think the real story had very little to do with the Roger story and it could have been left out. In the main story, I feel Lestat is merely along for the ride, hearing the Devil's version of the world, heaven, and hell. There is very little action or anything happening until the very end of the book. Speaking of which, I did like the ending of the book just fine!
What I did like: If you didn't realize this, Rice is essentially a romance author. What another author describes in 1 sentence "He sat down." for...

Beyond The Realms: Just when I thought that this series couldn’t get any deeper, MEMNOCH THE DEVIL became the next book to read in this incredibly deep, rich and complex vampire mythology. I had previously heard from some reviewers that the previous book in this series, THE TALE OF THE BODY THEIF, is where the series begins to take a turn for the worse and that this book is where it all bottomed out and became virtually unreadable and to those reviewers I ask: ‘Did we read the same books??’

If those reviewers were looking for a straight up vampire novel, then yes, they were most likely disappointed then for that aspect. If the highly religious read this book and are the type that can’t separate their personal beliefs from reading a work of fiction, then yes, they were also probably highly offended by this book and would in turn not find any kind of enjoyment out of it either.

MEMNOCH THE DEVIL is a controversial work, without question, as it takes us on an examination of the Christian religion, with Lestat being the central character that is faced with his grandest moment yet of self reflection and questioning of everything he ever thought true in his 200+ years of existence as...

mrskvetoslavac: Loved this book as i have loved all the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles. I will not tell you what happens, because i am sure there are numerous synapsis for this book. in fact i know because i have looked. and i have read them all.

It is brilliantly delivered, difficult to put down if you like this kind of thing. Little bit strange bordering on obscene, but that i suppose is what vampires are all about.

However, i would like to ask anyone who read it, what actually happens in the end? I mean i know he gets tricked in some way by the devil, but how is what happens actually tricking him? It was a little confusing. Thought-provoking for those who are looking to buy it, and worth reading, because i am still puzzled and want to read the next one with a hope of some light coming into the matter.

If there is anyone who can explain, please do...

Lord Bage: For anyone who loves Anne Rice's novels (and to be fair I haven't read a huge amount of them) this should be an awesome addition to the already brilliant series of novels she's written! Those of you who aren't familiar with Anne Rice (or indeed the whole Vampire area) will probably find this one of the most fantastic, thought provoking, exciting and unimaginably awesome books you ever read!!! Memnoch the Devil portrays Memnoch (the earliest known word for Satan/Lucifer,etc., I believe it's Hebrew) not as the inherently evil 'Enemy of God' or the fallen angel but almost as a confused child who cannot comprehend God's merciless views on creation. Memnoch fails to understand God's decision (as we all do at times) to create the Universe in all it's glory and splendour and then also create the elements that destroy environments and habitats and kill the creatures he supposedly made in his own image, i.e. mankind. Menoch sees this as the proverbial gladitorial arena and can't agree with God's decision to let things run their course when he has the power to prevent the suffering, the disease, the death, and the destruction.
Due to this strong disagreement with God on the running of...
