My kids took turns learning to use the microscope and they were at awe with what they saw. The included slides were great. I also bought other slides. This is an endless set of specimens to discover, observe and learn. Easy to use. My 8 year old knows how to use it.

ShopMastersShopMasters: Great value kit for the money. Note - comes in plain cardboard box, we taped a picture on the front in order to gift it. Also doesn’t include instructions; you’re supposed to be able to print from manufacturers website but was unable to. They did provide via email but they are poorly written and don’t explain a lot. You’ll have to google basics of how to use a microscope, and more importantly how to properly prepare slides. Finally, doesn’t include a case for microscope and all the accessories. Overall though, great inexpensive kit for kids and teens.

Ralph: The microscope has clear sharp scratch-free lens. Dual light source allows for viewing slides and larger opaque objects like coins. This was a birthday gift for my 7yr old niece. She loves looking at both slides and objects! I personally think the stage does not go down far enough to see opaque objects. It is much better suited to smaller things like slides of cells. However you would have to buy 2 microscopes otherwise. For my niece this is a great starter microscope offering both options. The book offers a lot of suggestions of things to see. The kit has everything you need to see or make your own slides. This is an incredibly affordable and comprehensive microscope kit that will serve my niece well into high school.

Howie Mandel: This is the best microscope for this value in my opinion. It is very easy to use and focus, has bottom and top lights. I can look at grains of sand or see the individual blood cells in a drop of blood from a cut moving. Comes with a bunch of extra slides and few slides with cool things to look at. We have had a lot of fun with the kids thinking of different things to look at and it can do it all.

Amazon Customer: This looks like it is going to be amazing... very sturdy. I also love the built in handle. However. I have given it less stars because there is NO instruction manual!!! It has been a long time since science class for me and we are struggling with how to use it even with the Usborne book. Did anyone else’s come with a manual? Help!

K. Beliakov: Despite all the various reviews my microscope came well packed and all of the items and glass slides were inside their own boxes. All components were inside sealed styrofoam container inside a plain carton box. Everything in the pictures except color filter ring were there. My microscope does have this ring but it has no filters, just holes of different size, I would assume to control amount of light that comes from bottom light source.
It came with lots of sample slides and overall worked really well. I really cannot complain about optics and it is remarkably decent given the cost. I did want one that has dual light source system and while top light works okay, it isn't bright enough so when your objective is too close to the sample, it blocks too much light. We used a simple usb LED snake light to overcome this. Some other reviews mentioned just getting a cheaper version with only bottom light which probably makes sense but I think relatively small price difference is worth for the top light even though it isn't as good as it could have been.
Microscope does have light intensity control so I might just swap the LED's for better higher output ones to make for a self...

Alexandra Florescu: My 7 year old wanted a microscope. The price tag was slightly high but I wanted to make sure that her first experience with one would be enjoyable and shocking. This is extremely important in sparking science interest with children. I am SO GLAD we went ahead with this combo. The device is sturdy and easy to use, the slide are glass, and the ease of focus is incredible. You can CLEARLY see the samples...even she can focus it within a few quick seconds. If you are trying to spark your kids' interest, go with this. It is quality!

Birch Academy: I would have given this microscope 5 stars if it wasn't for the packaging! Amazon did a great job however, when I opened the Amscope box I was immediately covered in 1000's of tiny pieces/shards of glass. The microscope was nice and tight in styrofoam but someone placed the 100 glass slides on top of the styrafoam with plenty of room to move around. THANK GOD I opened the box to inspect it before our daughter opened it on Christmas morning!!! The pieces of glass were so thin that they were stuck in the styrafoam, the bottom and sides of the box, my carpet, my unexpecting fingertips and all over my lap and carpet. Disappointed in the 90% loss of the 100 qty. slides. Now onto the MICROSCOPE... It is WONDERFUL! We have used this bundle package at our homeschool co-op and loved it so much that we had to have one for ourselves. The book & the slide prep kit are the icing on the educational cake. There is NO comparison between the quality of craftsmanship, the ability of magnification and the ease of use. We did our research when shopping around for other microscopes. Amscope nailed it! The price is unbelievable for what you are getting. You can feel the quality and rest assured...

Hans471: I have, as an amateur, used microscopes of various levels of quality since I was a child. I currently have a Japanese Nikon and another brand of Chinese microscopes to compare this unit to. I bought this as a first scope for my grand daughter (and her science minded Dad) to learn with. I liked that it had a book, samples and more for them to get started with.
I am impressed with the quality of this scope for its price. The kit is wonderful and has everything they need as beginners to learn about using such an instrument. The optical quality is not up to a Japanese Nikon but that is not a fair comparison by any means. The reality is this scope is far better than one could expect for a device prices this low. It has exceeded my expectations and is certainly very good for a starter scope or a scope for a hobbyist on a budget just starting out.
The optics are fine. The included materials really add to the experience as you have everything you need to learn with and grow with. Its a bargain for what it costs. I would recommend it without hesitation and would buy it again without a second thought. Yes, a Japanese Nikon or other high end brand is better, but you will spend...
