Happy Traveller: I twice bought and returned replacement Panasonic batteries for my Panasonic telephone handsets. The first set never charged properly, the second set stopped holding a charge after just a few months. So far these are a huge improvement, and at a much better price. They worked and recharged properly from the get-go, and seem to last forever between charges. Hopefully I'll still be saying the same in a few months. Thanks also to Amazon for accepting the late returns of the faulty Panasonic batteries, I tried contacting Panasonic but they were just "too bad, so sad, ask Amazon for a refund". Very disappointing, Panasonic used to mean quality!

Joe and Leslie: I tested 4 of these batteries using a battery capacity tester. After fully charging each battery I discharged 2 of the batteries at a constant 52 milliamps (ma) and the other 2 at a constant 55 ma. The 4 batteries achieved battery capacities of 580 milliamp-hours (mah), 573, 565 and 559. Overall I would rate these with a battery capacity on the order of 600 mah. Manufacturers typically rate capacity using a rate that is either 1/10 (10%) or 1/20 (5%) of the specified battery capacity. These batteries were specified as 800 mah. A 10% discharge rate would have been 80 ma and a 5% discharge rate would have been 40 ma.

MaxVideo: Many devices that come with an internal AAA NiMH battert use a cheap 300 mAH type. Since these are 800 mAH, they will last a lot longer between charges. I put one in one of those solar recharging LED path lights, and the improvement was dramatic. The light stays on at least twice as long at night on a charge as with the 300 mAH battery. The stock battery only kept the light on for about 3 hours after dark. This battery holds on for at least 6 and probably more (I'm not staying up that late to see how long... LOL).

Freund guter HardwareFreund guter Hardware: Früher oder später steigt wohl jeder mal auf NiMH-Akkus im Haushalt um. Damit diese als fast vollwertiger Ersatz für Primärzellen ("Batterien") verwendet werden können, ist es wichtig, auf Attribute wie "low self discharge" bzw. "geringe Selbstentladung" und "ready to use" zu achten. Markt- oder Technologieführer in diesem Bereich sind sicherlich die Eneloop-Akkus (früher von Sanyo, heute von Panasonic). Bei den AmazonBasics-Akkus sind diese Eigenschaften ebenfalls gegeben.

Am Prime Day hatte ich die gute Gelegenheit, mich im Angebot sowohl mit AmazonBasics-Akkus als auch Panasonic Eneloop-Akkus einzudecken. Die AmazonBasics-Akkus waren damals noch weiß. Inzwischen hat Amazon das Design umgestellt. Sie sind nun schwarz. Von den schwarzen Akkus besitze ich inzwischen auch acht Stück. Ich nehme es mal gleich vorweg: Bis auf das Design konnte ich keine Unterschiede feststellen.

Die AmazonBasics sind aktuell noch Made in Japan. Ebenso sind es bisher noch alle meine Eneloop-Akkus. Es ist aber vermehrt zu hören, dass die Produktion bei den Eneloop-Akkus auch auf China umgestellt wird. In Deutschland ist mir persönlich aber noch kein chinesischer Eneloop...
