Aleene's Leather & Suede Glue - 4 Oz Bottle

Jennifer: I have glued together several pieces of leather thus far with crafts and handbags I have been making. It works well and doesn't disappoint. I can see where the glue was because the sheen shows against the leather. It's not bad enough to complain about that. Aliens has always been a great product and I am ordering this again.

GokusonGokuson: I think the negative reviews are from people trying to use this the adhere materials other than leather to leather.

I have used this to glue several projects now. I am gluing the rough sides of two pieces of real leather together. This picture shows a clamp but usually I just put a heavy object on it.
It's very easy to use. It doesn't dry quickly so you can adjust your pieces or wipe off any excess. It performs exactly as advertised.
There's no mention of cure time on my bottle but like all similar products it's going to vary by environmental conditions i.e. temperature humidity and materials used. So far 24 hours seems to suffice at a reasonable temperature like 50°-80° F.
Is this going to hold together if you try to pull it apart? I dunno but that's not what it is for. It sure holds my leather pieces together just fine. I make sheaths and hatchet masks and glue the two pieces first, then reinforce with either studs or laces. Not only are they going to be stronger but they look good.
If you need to glue to pieces of REAL leather together, This product does that just fine.

Patty Blackmond: Used this to glue a small piece of suede/leather that ripped on Ugg boots. Didn't dry clear.

A: I was trying to adhere an iron-on patch to suede (the iron-on backing wasn’t setting right after heating up) and tried this. Knew it was a long shot but figured let’s try; the jacket in itself was a $3 purchase at a yard sale with a hole in the back, so if I ruined it trying to make it wearable, whatever, it’s a learning experience. Didn’t work, but I can’t really know if it was the product itself being bad, my unskilled application, or just that the situation really wasn’t a good fit for this glue.

It did dry clear, however, and not soak through the suede! It was on a suede jacket with a thin inner poly lining, and the glue would’ve been visible on the lining if it went through the suede. No glue was seen. So that part was good. Jacket still isn’t wearable, but it also isn’t ruined by glue, and we’ll call that a win for now.

Terri: Our new leather sectional is all of six months old when I noticed a 4 inch slice on one of the arms. I was upset to say the least. The cut did not go completely through the leather but deep enough where you could see the black backing against the ivory top. I did not have high hopes But I had to make an attempt to repair. I put a bit of glue along the cut with a toothpick. I pushed down and held the leather together. It did not completely adhere on my first attempt. So I then applied a bit more glue and repeated about three times. Again I only used a tiny bit each time. By the third application, The glue successfully held the leather together. You get a lot of glue in the container so it will last a good long time. I recommend this product.
UPDATE: 6 months later and the glue is holding. I’m impressed.
