Aftermarket Moen 1222 Posi-Temp Replacement Cartridge - Compatible with One-Handle Faucets & Tub Shower - Durable Brass & Plastic Construction for Essential Values

L-Con: Replaced two of these in my home. Used an oem cartridge in the first, and ordered this one to have as a spare/backup. I decided to replace the cartridge in my spare bathroom, and figured I’d give this one a try. The old cartridge was extremely stubborn to remove, and broke apart during removal. The rubber seals had fused themselves to the valve body. I had to essentially pry and break the remnants out of the body. The body was corroded, and I was concerned with getting a good seal from the new cartridge, so I also purchased a 1” ball hone on Amazon. I’m glad I did. The hone allowed me to thoroughly clean up the inside of the valve, and gave me a nice smooth surface for the seals to mate to. The cartridge works great, and after a few months of daily use, is still leak free, and very easy to turn. I won’t hesitate to purchase these for my third bathroom, when the need arises.

Greg L.: I replaced the valve and found that the drip got even worse. I got the first indication when I installed it.
It was a very tight fit and had difficulty in getting it in the compartment. I did go to a local h/w store and got the Meon 1222 valve. When I install the Meon, it easily fit in with very little difficulty; easy as can be.

I look back at the ratings this valve I saw that there were ~2200 ratings and 10 % being a 1 star. It makes me wonder if 4.3 rating is miss representation of the valve.

Don't buy it!

Fernando L Ramirez: I needed to replace two of these in my house, so I bought one from this knockoff brand ($22) and one original Moen ($44).

This one seems good quality overall. It is not exactly the same as the Moen, there are some subtle differences in the design, most noticeably that the outer o-ring seems a bit smaller/thinner, though I'm not entirely sure. Moen provides better instructions and quite a bit more grease. This brand provided only a small amount of grease - perhaps enough, but I preferred the extra grease from Moen, just in case.

The cartridge went in easy on installation and operates smoothly for rotating to turn the water on/off. No leaks at installation, so far so good.

Having done two of these installs now, don't even think about trying to remove the old cartridge with just pliers. Get a cartridge removal tool. It is well worth the $15. As many others have noted in their reviews, it's common for the old cartridge to be really stuck in there, and pulling with just pliers will put a lot of strain on your pipes. WDC: Got a panicked call from my girlfriend while I was 1400 miles away (and wouldn't be back for another 3 weeks) that the handle for the shower wouldn't turn off and water was running out of the tub spout and it would not stop. Had a plumber come out the next day and quote me amost $600 to fix the issue. He told me the cartridge needed to be replaced. I thanked him, paid him the appointment fee of $89 and declined any further work. I had replaced the cartridge for this shower 5 years earlier, so I already had the plug tool. Ordered this cartridge (same-day delivery), found a good video on YouTube on how to remove and install a new one. My girlfriend was able to follow the instructions and problem solved! (She was so proud of herself for being able to do it herself). I can't speak to the long term durability, but this part fit and works so far. Don't pay a plumber over 17 times the cost for parts and labor. Not throwing shade on plumbers, but this is an easy fix that almost anybody who can turn a screwdriver and can find their main water shutoff valve will be able to handle.
