This thing holds coffee cups great! of course it splashes a little. but if the lid is on tight there is little to worry about.

Chicksy: Got this for my knee scooter because it's hard to move liquid on those! The upper brackets are 3 inches ID. That size fit my usual glass for water, and it fits normal size water bottles. Don't get this if you are using glasses/bottles much larger than 3 inches in diameter. The shaft on the knee scooter is at a slight angle, not completely straight - the bottle holder can't be adjusted for this, so it made spills easier on a full open glass. Pretty minor and not a typical situation. Overall, I'm pleased with this bottle holder.
