M. Luthke: I have been following Maggie Doyne's story -- and that of Kopila and BlinkNow -- for several years now. This book tells Maggie's epic journey from a privileged American teenager to a thoughtful, successful humanitarian, mother, and wife. It is very well written -- not a dull page -- honest, deep, and, at times, painful to read. Moving, inspirational, humble. If you are ready to be moved, or even to act, this book is for you!

Laurel S.: As an educator, I love reading about passionate educators. What a beautiful and honest story. Teachers give so much of themselves to their students and Maggie’s experience in Nepal is inspirational.

R. Pauly: I recommended this to my book club and everyone felt overwhelmed by this book and Maggie Doyne. The book is personal; she writes of her desire to make a difference and the love and sorrow that comes with this. What my group also found enlightening was your recognition of being an outsider in Nepal and how this both helped her cause and also resists it. So it is a very emotional book, that is also intellectual. I personally think everyone will be moved by some part of this story and highly, highly recommend it. I listened to it on Audible and it is read by the author who did an amazing job.

Rebecca_in_Switzerland/XpatAdventures: This book is listed under adoption, under charity & philanthropy… but it’s for so many other people, too:
- Founders who wonder if they’re doing something wrong because they’re not superheroes yet will see it’s taken an amazing, large group of committed people of at least 3 generations working together for years to build Kopila Valley & BlinkNow. I have had the great privilege of working with leaders & startups all over the world; this is hands down the finest group of people I’ve ever seen work together. Loved the line, “It’s not perfect, but it’s right.”
- Independent, adventurous, curious girls & women who leave the expected or traditional narrative or path imagined for their lives will see themselves. I loved when Maggie wrote, “That was always the plan: to wander off the path for a year then hop back on.” & how her parents had to let go of the life they imagined for her, too. There were so many truth bombs for women & girls like us.
- People whose faith is shaken. There’s a sentence in the end about: we have to start with believing it’s possible… that act of faith, of belief, after everything? Oh my...

Emily HS: I devoured this beautiful book over two days - I couldn’t put it down! Having had the privilege of traveling to Nepal myself, I could close my eyes and see, smell and taste Surkhet as I read. I could see the glorious sunsets off the rooftop, hear the kids gathered around the table, laughing and chatting and feel the breeze blowing through after the rain. I could picture sitting at the table at the new school land, trying jackfruit for the first time and laughing at the taste/smell mismatch, watching the kids play tug-of-war behind us. Tears of joy and sorrow as I read the stories I thought I already knew. This book oozes with love and hope for humanity. ❤️
