Sara L. Hommes: It’s very thorough and educational but also very fun. The mushroom characteristics described are effective for identifications. There are also fun little pictures and memories sprinkled throughout. The small size makes it convenient to take along on mushroom hunts.

NS_Hiker: This book is fantastic! Packed with information on foraging, anecdotes, recipes and encouragement.
It is geared toward the Pacific Coast but I find it valuable for the East Coast as well.

Vitamin: I just got the book and from what I can tell, the content looks great. Nice colored pictures too.
The main issue is that while it's a new book, pages 218 to 240 are all upside down inside the book. Both upside down and backwards, meaning it goes from page 218 to 240 then 239 then 238, and after page 218 it goes to 241. It's not a deal breaker as I can just flip the book to read those pages, but it's a minor inconvenience that holds it back from 5 stars.

Dr. Jochen Robert Moehr: I have bee hunting mushrooms for pretty much 70 years. I grew up in the post WWII years in Germany, when the Morgenthau Plan of the USA had clamped down on industrial and hence agricaultural production in Germany, and had imposed misery, hunger and starvation on Germany, which finally had surrendered. Foraging had become a matter of sheer survival. Fortunately, my father was a pharmacist, and hence a professional advisor to mushroom hunters. He primed me on mushroom hunting from age 4. I kept up the passion ever since.
Coming to the Pacific North West of the North American Continent (Vancouver Island, BC, Canada) in 1986, some 25 years ago, I had to relearn much of what I had been familiar with in Central Europe. The 60 or so species of fungi, I had been able to chose from on my foraging expeditions over there were reduced to nothing, and slowly over the years were increased to something like 30 species. I yearned for a guide to advance me!
This book (All the Rain Promises . . . ) is the best of all the ones I purchase in pursuit of increasing my knowledge. And although I am a firm believer in the fact that any mushroom hunter, who cares for his/her life and that of...

VictoriaVictoria: The book arrived quickly and I love it but there is something wrong with the way it was printed. Pages toward the back of the book aren’t cut right and are fuzed together. I had to rip a few of them apart to be able to read them.
