abjeffersabjeffers: The media could not be loaded.  After reading many of the reviews for this item I decided to take a chance on it. The spinner arrived within 3 days. It was well packaged, and all the parts were there. No tools required for assembly. I was happy to see all metal construction. The hub bearings have a lot of side play, but will be easily replaced when they fail. Hardest part of assembly was putting the post together. The ferrules are aluminum, and easily cross-threaded if not careful. Keep a gentle touch when tightening; you want them snug, but don't strip the threads.
Once assembled, the vanes wobbled excessively, but were fairly easy to bend so they run true. I discovered both vanes had heavy spots. When spun by hand, they always settled back to the same position. This may be why so many people complain that it wouldn't spin properly. I crimped a 1/2 ounce lead fishing weight at the light (top) side of each vane, and now it spins even in light breeze.
I had a little difficulty with the light, may be a loose connection, but for now it works as advertised.

Gordon JuddGordon Judd: The media could not be loaded.  I purchased this spinner to act as a motion deterrent to keep birds out of my tomato plants. Thus its ability to spin in light winds was most important to me.

Out of the box I found it would spin much better than the Magnolia spinner I had purchased earlier but still was not what I was looking for since it required a brisk wind to make it spin.

Being an engineer I noticed that the same cup always came to rest at the bottom of the spinner when it stopped spinning. That was a sure sign the spinner was out of balance, and thus it needed a sizeable torque to overcome that imbalance before it would start to spin.

That sizeable imbalance surprised me since the unit was well made, but it was obvious that nothing was done to balance the spinner after it was initially constructed. Maybe the added cost required to add some offsetting balancing weights on the back of the spinner is deemed unnecessary by Steadydoggie’s management.

Not to be deterred I followed the balancing process described in a YouTube video made by Luciano Chiang and found that gluing a penny (mass=2.5g) to one of the cups made a big improvement in the...
