ZeekZeek: I bought this trash can locally and it only worked properly with fresh batteries (2 D cell) which never lasted. It would then revert to opening only halfway and was a total pain. Plus the batteries were a total rip-off. The back cover says 3V, so I got this adapter, cut the plugs off the end, and stripped the wires bare (it's low voltage). I connected the positive (white stripe) to the positive spring and the negative to the other and taped them so they stayed wrapped around. I plugged it in and WHAM!! It works better than it EVER did on batteries! Plus no more wasted money on batteries and disposal. You WILL need an outlet withing about three feet or so, but the cord is fairly long. PLUS I love the adjustable voltage so if this can ever craps out, I'll do the same with the replacement!

Hicham Al-Nachawati: Very very bad I had to buy another set of battery lights. Also All the output voltages were higher than claimed. The meter says the output voltage is 4.5 volts ???? Set the input to 220 volt and now the 1.5 volt output is 1.5 volts.

Dude: I set the voltage and output and input to the proper settings, attached it to a battery string in of lights and it blew out all the lights. I then took a volt meter and saw that the output voltage was way off and the reason why the lights blew out. I started playing with the 110/220 selector and the different output voltages and was able to get close to the voltage I needed but it was trial and error by playing with settings. If you value what you are plugging this thing into do not get. If you are willing to take a chance with frying your item then this is for you…it was cheap but winded up being expensive because I had to buy another set of battery lights.

DJR Patriot: Our cordless phone system in our house stopped working after a lightning storm. I was able to determine that the power adapter for the base was the only thing that was not working. I tried in vain to find an OEM power supply. I actually bought two of them, but both caused a hum on our telephone line. This regulated power supply fixed our phone system, saving me a significant amount of money (which would have been required to replace the original phone system).

J. Bruha: I needed a 4.5 volt adapter, with the polarity that had the + in the center of the plug, and the - on the outside. This adapter allows you to set several voltages, as well as reverse the polarity, with the included key-shaped tool. I actually like that it uses a tool, as you don't have to worry about accidentally changing your setting. If you ever lose the tool, a small flat bladed screwdriver will work. I really don't know what to do with all the extra plugs, as they are all 'hot', you simply plug in the one you need. If it came either with some sort of cover, to protect the exposed plugs, or perhaps several adapters, so that you only used the plug you need, I would give 5 stars. As it is, it works just fine, but care must be taken to not let anything conductive touch the exposed plugs, and short it out. A minor quibble, but something I thought worth mentioning.
