50 Quart Elite Cooler by Pelican: Keep Food and Drinks Cold for Longer

Lynn H: I ordered this PELICAN 50 QUART ELITE COOLER as a gift for my son. He was so excited to receive it and uses it daily. It is the perfect size and his drinks stay cold and the ice lasts a long time in the cooler. He keeps it in the back of his truck so it is exposed to the elements but you could never tell the surface of the cooler has been compromised.

Guarantee: This cooler does what it is advertised to do - keep items safely cold during transport. But be aware that it is weighty even when empty and is larger than lesser competitors. The 50 quart Coleman cooler this Pelican replaced was 22.6x 17.6 x 17.7. In contrast the Pelican is 30 x 20.3 x 20.4. The Coleman weighs 12.7 lbs whereas the Pelican weighs 32 pounds. Note I'm not complaining because I understand more bulk and weight enables the Pelican to perform much better. But understand that you may need two people to lift a fully packed 50 quart Pelican whereas one person might more muscle a 50 quart Coleman (or maybe you all put in a lot more time at the gym than I do) LOL

steve casey: I live im Arizona and needed a cooler that could hold up to the summer heat. This cooler did not disappoint. Heavy duty latches built in handles and very heavy duty. Best value and better then the other big brand by far. Holds ice for days in 110° weather with the sun beating down on it all day long.

Jay: This is a great cooler, better performance than a Yeti and cheaper. I also have a Yeti which is smaller on the inside but also the outside. This is a true 50qt interior capacity, so the outside is considerably larger than a Yeti. Pelican just barely fit in my truck under the tonneau cover.
If you can fit this in your space it's the best value for capacity and ice retention.

Amazon Customer: So, I have a collection of Pelican case products in various sizes. It seemed logical to get one of their coolers except their common color schemes (green/grey, orange/tan) were all obnoxious. When I found this one being grey and tan and being that there were only 3 left, I jumped at it. When it arrived, I immediately took it on a 2 day scalloping trip. I put one bag of ice in it, to see if it really would keep the ice for 7 days. It sort of kept the ice for the two days. By the end of day 2 a third of the bag of ice was still solid. So, not too bad. Definitely better than a normal cooler. It's definitely tough and rugged, but it's also big and bulky. I don't know how long Yeti cooler's retain ice, but a comparable quart capacity would have been smaller and lighter, although likely not as indestructible as the Pelican's ABS plastic. The Pelican elite looks to be made from the same plastic they make all their storm cases out of. In the end, i've never owned a cooler this nice, and I'm pretty happy with it so far even if it is a little on the bulky side.

Alpha Tango: First thing, this is a heavy and purpose-built cooler. Awesome look, latches feel solid and secure. To anyone reading this you need to understand one thing: these high end coolers work great but they don’t work miracles. I started with about 35 room temp beer cans and about 25lbs of ice. The ice held rock solid for 2 days then slowly deteriorated until the 5th day when I had cold water. Bear in mind, I replenished the cooler with more room temp cans which would have contributed to the ice degrading. I’ll suggest that if you tempered the cooler with ice packs and used pre-chilled cans then obviously it will hold longer. Overall an awesome buy and certainly a conversation piece.

Kindle Customer: I admit it, I have a deep love for Pelican products. I was disappointed to read about some of the coolers leaking from the drain. I was looking for a cooler that was between 50-60 quarts, was considering the Orca, Cabelas Polar Cap and this Pelican Elite. After reading hundreds of reviews, I thought I had decided on the Cabelas Polar Cap. I went to a local Cabelas and looked at the cooler. They were very nice, rugged coolers, but seemed REALLY large (exterior dimensions) for the quart capacity of the cooler, so I went back home and did some more reading. The taper of the walls (Top is wider than the bottom) is huge on the Cabelas….so much so, that the 50 quart Pelican Elite is smaller than the 40 quart Cabelas Polar Cap. The 60 quart Pelican Elite is only slightly larger than the Cabelas Polar Cap 40 quart. Both have the standard 2" insulation, just the taper on the Cabelas cooler makes it take up a huge amount of space. Now to be fair, the Pelican Cooler is slightly taller, I think under an inch, but that didn't affect me. I was only concerned about the overall footprint side to side and front to back.
