Kindle Customer: These are great, inexpensive match holders that happen to have a few extras. The whistle is a useful feature. The compass is nearly useless, but it might be a little helpful in a pinch. Bought a bunch of these for my kids and as gifts for neices and nephews.

Croppled1: I ride my bike on trails back in the woods . This is ok for that . The compass gives you a very general heading off by as much as 20 degrees you better know what side of the tree's moss grows on to double check . The flint is not useful . The match case is waterproof so I put some drier lint soaked in vasoline in it with some underwater matches and a couple strikers off match packs . The whistle works well but you cannot use it for marine safety because it is not pea less which was what I wanted to use it for and sadly did not pick up on . Because pea's often fail they are not normally used in survival applications . For $1.50 or so I am not disappointed but I couldn't give it a high score because it is not very functional though if you ever fell into a ravine off a trail out of site and couldnt' get up as long as the pea didn't fail you could blow SOS and hope someone walking up on the trail heard you and knew what it meant . You might be able to start a small fire with your matches and keep warm and it is emergency orange to help someone see you . The mirror is in the match cap and about a 1/2 inch around so I do not know how good a signal you could make that...

jgas: i bought several of these, as my daughters go camping and hiking and i wanted them to have something to use in an emergency so they could have one and their kids could have one .. so far, thank goodness, only my grand-daughter had to use the whistle once when she was crossing a stream and got stuck on a rock in the middle .. the whistle did its purpose and my daughters heard and ran to her rescue .. i am more than happy with this purchase .. even if the compass doesn't work perfectly, the whistle and waterproof container are perfect for the price ..
received fast (and free) shipping (from hong kong) so what's the problem with the other reviews ..? are they looking for gold and diamond encrusted items for this price .. ? give it a rest ..

Peter: excellent article recommend a 100 percent purchase this product for those acasos emergency that may occur, but the most important is that not happen and always be alert and ready for every occasion, besides that when you go on tour and miss you contact you through the whistle and if that does not work because you have heard your excellent compass for orientation. the mirror helps. the seller very responsible, honest, when you buy the item read shipped from Hong Kong, with that eye. if you need tour when close, if you're not really buy it urged for shipping in three weeks you get to your house.
