Todd M. Hirsch: I bought the unit expecting that the cooler would have a working thermostat. This was part of the reason I bought it. It says in the owners manual that the thermostat dial you adjust will vary the temperature. All a lie. The dial is basically an on/off switch. When I called Danby ( called 4 different times and each time it took more 30 minutes to speak to a customer service rep. The last time I called I was on hold for 50 minutes—who does this? ) to inquire about this issue they were extremely unhelpful. The first time I called ( 2 days after I bought the unit) they told me to wait 48 hours and that it should start working. Nope. 2nd time they told me to call a repair service vetted by them and they provided me the number. They wouldn’t call. So I did. I called the repair shop 3 times and never received a call back. So now I called Danby customer service a third time. ( again on hold for more than 1/2 hour) and they gave me a different repair shop. This time the repair shop called back and sent a person out. He took a look at the wine cooler and told me the thermostat was a joke. Not a thermostat at all but an on/off switch. This was a problem because the cooler chills at only...

Otis the Kindle Customer: I'm very happy with my Danby 36 bottle wine cooler. My opinion is propelled as much by the Danby product's features and appearance as by my poor experiences with several other coolers falling into the "less-expensive" price bracket.
Features:
1. The Danby has a very large capacity for its price placement. You should know that larger diameter bottles need to be loaded back/front/back/front/back in order to put five per shelf, and that the sixth shelf from the bottom is a bit tighter than the other five full depth racks.
2. This unit is sturdily built with construction quality on a par with some of the more expensive units. The door is solid and reversible. The sheet metal sheathing is thick enough to resist dents from handling and from minor impacts.
3. The finish is good enough to allow placement in a well appointed room.
4. This unit is cooled by a relatively quiet compressor backed up by a twelve-month in-home warranty. I much prefer this technology with its ability to reach and maintain a wide variety of temperatures over the thermoelectric cooling technology used in most other less expensive units.
Suggestions:
1. Use an inexpensive digital thermometer...

Chad: I've hesitated to post this review. I have owned this wine cooler for about two months now.
- It seems to maintain a constant temperature.
- It uses relatively electricity.
- It is a bit louder than desired and I've found that I need to turn it off when guests are staying in my living room.
- I am generally able to fit five bottles per shelf (with some creative arrangement) and a few more in the bottom. It can accommodate most Pinot Noir bottles but I have had difficulty with some champagnes (then again, I don't care for champagne anyway).
I purchased it because I wanted to store my wine in a separate unit with climate control. I travel quite a bit for work and my apartment is subject to some substantial temperature swings.
The temperature control is imprecise at best and keeps the reds too cold for consumption even at the lowest possible setting. I apologize for the lack of precise numbers. I'll acquire a thermometer and report back.
