Spock: Purchased this for my 1yr old kitten who showed no interest in Catnip. Well like the other brand of Silvervine I purchased from Amazon - she sniffed it for 15 seconds and never went near it again. Gave remaining to neighbours with cats and same - no interest. Not sure why everyone is so thrilled with this as 6 cats in all (inc neighbours) varying ages and nothing.

Liz: I'm pretty sure the tufts on the end are made of plastic. I looked up "lafite grass" and only found references to dried flower arrangements, I'm pretty sure it's not a variety of grass. I can't tear the pieces with my hands, which makes me think it's not safe for a cat to swallow.
You can pull the tufts out without too much trouble, they're just glued to an indentation on the ends of the sticks.
The little berry is unfortunately attached with elastic. I definitely suggest giving this a good tug to make sure it's not going to come undone. The berries are supposed to be safe and are the part that cats like best, it's the elastic I'm concerned about them swallowing. I will probably cut it off entirely and give them the berries when the elastic starts to go.
This is definitely a supervised play toy. A kitty could get an obstruction swallowing elastic, a piece of rope, a chunk of stick, or that "grass" if you choose to leave it on. All silvervine sticks are supposed to be for supervised play because they eventually get chewed down into bits.
