Beadmaker7: Just got my hurricane ukulele. It is a thing ‘O beauty in a wild kinda way. My only complaint is that the action is pretty high but my goodness. It’s a ukulele. I can still play it easy. I might try filing the bridge but I don’t want to mess up the intonation which is great! Mine came with 2 strap buttons. Yes I read all the reviews before I purchased. Also came with tuner,strap,an exceedingly good gig bag etc. The tuners are excellent! Like really excellent. The tone is pretty good but I kinda think it’s gonna get a lot better with time and settling in the strings,etc. The strings are not tied down. I haven’t loosened them enough but apparently they tie on or something inside the body. I’ll figure it out. But for right now, if I got a guitar with this high action, I’d say no way. But seriously it doesn’t matter. It’s beautiful, it’s wild, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me. I got the spalted maple. It’s really beautiful.

DmonDmon: I am leaving my review from my first purchase below, which I had to send back due to a crack at the soundhole that I did not notice immediately. I tried to contact Hricane several times, got no reply at all! I ended up sending it back, and immediately bought another one. The second one had even more spalting, and it was even more gorgeous! However, even after tuning several times a day and playing it ever chance I got, it just did not sweeten up. A fret was high, so there was buzzing on a couple of chords... but more importantly, it just sounded dull. Funny how one uke sounds like angels singing and the exact same model sounds blech. I sent it back- no support from Hricane and it was too much money for a wall ornament. Very disappointed- looks great!

Original review- I am new to ukuleles, but I have learned what to look for and what to avoid. This is my first concert ukulele, and it instantly became my favorite upon arrival. Russell Jones: This glossy gem is lightweight but solidly built. The spalted maple body is not veneer but solid wood (the maple grain is visible through sound hole). Through the body string holes might take some getting used to, but mine arrived with Aquila Super Nylgut strings which are semi-transparent and look really good with the glossy finish and sound great. Strap buttons in black are installed on neck and body and the included strap (which matches the design shown) is made for buttons (unlike the soundhole clip shown). The tuning machines look cool in black and inline like an electric-guitar. I bought this one for looks alone! The almond shape is unique and the colourful inlay is tasteful and bold at the same time.

andreweh: EDIT: After using the ukulele for a while and repairing the stripped screw hole I decided to give this ukulele more stars. I was initially very upset concerning the lie about the solid top when it is actually laminate, but it is such a pretty instrument and it plays so well that I calmed down and decided to keep it. Laminate wood is much more resistant to damage from humidity and heat anyway and the price was reasonable even if it is laminate instead of solid. I am enjoying playing it very much.

I will start with what I liked about this solid top (not) Koa (Acacia) Ukulele. It is very pretty and holds it's tune well after string break in. The sound is OK and the neck was nice with no sharp frets etc. The action was very good right out of the box.
What I did not like:
The top is laminate and not solid as advertised. The finish around the sound hole and a few other places around the ukulele is very poorly done. The screw for the neck strap button was overtightened at the factory and stripped out needing repair. The outer box supplied by Amazon was perfect on arrival but the actual box the ukulele was in was very damaged and even had one end missing. As the end was not...

jsphotojsphoto: Lovely spalted maple ukulele. Action was a little high for me so I knocked out the nut and sanded down, as well as the Saddle. Description says D'Addario strings, replacements strings are worded strangely mentioning 3 materials, but maybe nylgut?

M. McwilliamsM. Mcwilliams: I received the Hricane Ukulele in an over-sized box, which was good to protect the inner boxer with the ukulele in it. I opened it up, and was really impressed by the craftsmanship and glossy finish. After tuning the strings properly, I played a few songs. The tone was really nice, and feel of the fret board was great, and for the money, this was a really good ukulele. One thing...there was no strap buttons installed on this ukulele, but the pictures show strap buttons. The included strap is a hook on version. To me this is not a big deal, as strap buttons can be easily installed if needed. I would recommend this ukulele to anyone starting out, or even an advanced player. The fit and finish is excellent.

NikkiNikki: The look of it is simply super high end, tough it is not solid wood it looks just as if it was all mahogany. Beautifully built.

SOUND: Very clear and nice resonance from the woods which plays very well with an acoustic guitar in terms of volume. It is little, but puts out a nice warm yet Ukulele like crisp highs
STRINGS: I have kept the ones that are on and they do match the additional ones that they sent out (which is really cool), again not a Ukulele pro, however the strings are holding up very well and after the first week of playing and stay in tune quite well
BODY: For this price, SUPERB! It is solid built and I can tell it will also take on some beating for a while. The neck is beautiful with a satin finish which makes nice to slide back and forth as you play
TUNERS: These in combination with the strings that it comes with have worked super well to keep the instrument in tune for days at a time only minor adjustments every other day, and good to go.
PLAYABILITY: Right out of the box this Ukulele feels very smooth around the fretboard, the frets are well polished and do not catch your fingers, the back of the neck allows for easy position change.
