This 2-pack of 18-inch winding rods is the perfect tool for adjusting or replacing torsion springs in your garage door. The rods are made of 0.5-inch diameter steel and feature a rubber handle for easy gripping. Our winding rods are the best on the market, designed for maximum satisfaction, build quality, sturdiness, and overall performance. Get your garage door springs and wires in top shape with these top-notch winding rods. ERedding: These are the perfect size and strength for adjusting garage door springs. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND that working on springs is dangerous!
Yes you can install and/or adjust them yourself but:
--LEARN HOW FIRST. There are lots of guides and videos online to help you with this
--USE THE PROPER TOOLS. Use these rods that are designed to handle the tension the springs are under.
--BE SAFE. Use protective gear and NEVER get right behind your winding rods in case they get thrown
or spun by a spring. ALWAYS be off to the side. A good DIY video will demonstrate this.

Steve Fig: The poles worked great. Tightening the spring in a garage door that is high up is not for the faint of heart. Glad I researched which bars work best after my repurposed rebar didn’t fit. Again, these bars help tremendously. And fit my old garage door double spring setup 12ft in the air. But don’t do this on a rickety ladder. I have a JLG lift and I was still fighting through it. Lol If you haven’t done this before, get these bars and pay someone else to do it. Many people get hurt in the process. These bars have heft and if the spring load gets a chance to reverse, you don’t wanna catch one of these to the face. There’s a good YouTube video on it. There’s probably a few. But follow those instructions. Or you’ll end up with a dent in your head.

JT, Portland OR: My first advice is don't try to wind (unwind) your garage torsion springs if you don't know what you're doing. You can really get hurt. Check out several YouTube videos and be cautious. That said, these bars are basic steel bars. The rubber handles can slip off while you're adjusting the spring tension, so I took them off while using the bars. I also had to use a "cheater" bar as an extension to the 18 inch bars to tighten the tension as I didn't have the strength or leverage to do it with just the 18 inch bars.

Picky Consumer 01: REMEMBER DIYers, THERE IS MECHANICAL FORCE THAT IS DANGEROUS IF NOT CONTROLLED.
DO NOT LET YOUR BODY GET IN FRONT OF THE WINDING BARS OR THE SPRINGS.

Despite there being - some - negative reviews, overall these seemed to be liked by most.
Today, I just finished using them to adjust a double spring garage door. They fit well into the winding cone with just a little looseness. I unwound both springs counting as I went and noted the number. This is so I'd know both springs were identically wound when done. At about 6 turns, the tension was strong enough that it took two arms to turn. YET, these winding bars did not noticeable bend, and the did not want to slide out of the winding cone. (One will fall out if pointing down to the floor with nothing holding it.) At 7-1/2 turns I could barely turn them, and then and only then did the winding bar bend a little. That is good steel.
So I'm very happy with the product performance.

Robert Alcock: What can you say about two shiny steel bars with grippy handles except they feel great. Never thought I would need these tools but feel safer knowing I have the right tool for servicing my garage door.

Martin B.: I used the winding bars almost immediately after getting them. The bars felt strong and I really liked the rubber grips on the ends. It was the first time I did a service on my dual torsion spring garage door and after watching YouTube videos the bars performed their critical job of holding torsion energy while I replaced the rollers in the lowest door brackets on both sides, removed and cleaned up rust/painted one bracket and replaced one damaged cable. I really did take my time and double checked every move I made around the torsion springs. I also made sure that there were no distractions or other people in the garage when I was doing the service. Overall I really liked the winding bars and look forward to keeping our garage doors in tip top shape for years to come.
