Mary L.: I tried 3d printing my own tool to pull the valve spring retainers, it worked KINDA... but putting the retainers back in was a nightmare. I ended up cutting a piece of rod off thats almost the size of the hollow end of the tool (not the pliers..), then attaching it to a spring and using epoxy to attach them both to the hollow end. This kept some kind of pressure on the retainers as you push the tool onto the spring seats to keep them from popping out. Once I got the method down and had my modified tool, it took no time to get through the project on both my 2JZGTE and my sons 1JZGTE. its good, but it could be WAY better....the pliers work great though LOL make sure you use a light to check the valve stems for any residual seal material after each one!!! i had to use a pick on almost every seal on one side, I think it was the exhaust side, but its been a while now.

jason l.: Using these on the very popular 2AZ Toyota engine (Camry 4cyl), the tool for installing the seal was not deep enough. The valve would bottom out in the tool. Had to drill the tool out deeper to clear.

Also...
Might have been user error, but one seal (of 16 installed) didn't go down straight and ended up jammed in the tool. Cost me $50 to buy a second set of seals to replace the damaged one. Might be wise to buy extra seals ahead of time to save the extra trips to the store while your car is in pieces. :(

I only bought it for the valve seal pliers. I put duct tape on the outside of the jaws to keep the bores safe. The pliers rock! They are super strong and took the valve seals out of my DOHC 7mgte like nobodies business. I’m sure the installers would work well, but they are not deep enough to install with the valves in the head. So 11mm 12 point deepwell it is.
I would buy again just for the pliers.
