For those who are 3D printing or want to pre-drill their holes: I created a pilot hole size of 1.2 mm. You can use needle nosed pliers to hold the eye pin while twisting it in, it helps to keep it steady while you twist.
I measured the diameter of the threaded area with a digital caliper and it was 1.4 mm including the threads.
