NicolaNicola: Moved into a place with an oak kitchen. Love the trees in the wild, not so much in the house. Painted with General Finishes Lamp Black. I wiped down the cupboard doors, and tried some with a very light sanding and some with no prep apart from the wipe down -no difference really. I use foam brushes and regular brushes to paint and for the final coat, I use a mini roller. No matter what you use, and I have tried all brushes, it has never left brush marks. Once dried, it always dries well. The first layer you will panic but do not, just let it dry and do another. You may need a third. I sanded the edges of the doors afterward, as I wanted a more distressed /rustic look. (In the pics, there are a couple of different handles because I was still deciding which to use). I used the general finishes satin coat over-top (one coat) and it holds up very well. I am still completing the rest of the kitchen. Very happy with the purchase overall.

Josh Rochon: The media could not be loaded. We just bought a house so of course I got into the whole diy your furniture thing. After some research I saw a lot of people mentioning milk paint! Now this isn’t real milk paint for those of you wondering but it achieves the look just the same. I wouldn’t change my decision for a second. I got this beautiful dresser and mind you it needed some refinishing. After some minimal hand sanding and wiping I got straight to painting!
When I say I got this done in 40 min, would you believe me? Well believe me, because I did, and it’s such a rewarding finish. So if you’re conflicted about it, just buy it!

DAS: I apply this milk paint a brush and recently applied Lamp Black to a very large item. It just flattens and levels beautifully. I live in a very hot and humid climate and just put a tinch of water in the quart to thin it; sometimes I dip the paintbrush in water and then dry to just damp on a shop towel as I go between passes. These are not my ideas, I listened to tons of GF videos. Result: Looks sprayed every time. L Note: There is a suggestion about purchasing Wizz pads with a footie. Doesn't work for me, maybe you. Purdy brushes work great for me. I took off the Wizz footie and used it for the top coat and a million hairs came off the pad--caveat emptor. BTY, I'm in my late 70's. You can do this and SO much help from GF, many Q&A's, etc.

Kittens: I painted 2 dressers including the drawers with this paint. I had more than enough to do two coats. on everything but the drawers. I probably would have had enough to do on the drawers but I was doing fun galaxy paint colors over the black so a second coat on them wasn't necessary. The first coat was a little too streaky/thin for my tastes but after the second coat it was such a nice satin finish with no brush strokes I was very much impressed. The top reason I tried milk paint for the first time was b/c I heard it had no odor and It barely has an odor. A fan on in the room and an open window or 2 is all you really need for this. However, I will only officially recommend painting stuff outside in a well ventilated area. I have a mask for paint fumes and such from my other hobbies so the windows and fan was enough for me :)

Toronto: Wanted to "paint" my red oak instead of staining since the wood wasnt perfect but wanted the grain to show.Regular paint would just cover up the beautiful wood grain and the stain would show the wood blemishes.Did a bit of research and General Finishes made a "milk paint".This is not actually milk paint where you have to mix the power form to make it but more of latex like pre mix form. You must make sure the surface is prep and clean.Stir the paint and paint it like you would apply a stain. Its really a wonderful self leveling paint but try to avoid streaks.Apply at least two coats.Dries in a few hours. If you want a more durable finish add a clear coat. When it dries the wood grain shows but the blemishes are covered.Has a very unique antique look finish.A great alternative product vs regular latex paint.

R. Lee: I have used a variety of General finishes products including their "Milk" paint on one other occasion. My previous experience was applied with a brush. I was happy with the results, so I decided to try it again, but this time using a sprayer. I don't have a turbine, I just use a pancake compressor with a big box store spray gun. I was really happy with the product. It was really thick, and I felt like I needed to thin it to achieve a decent spray finish.
This is a REALLY matt product. I had a few issues following sanding between each coat. I tried a number of types of cloths and rags, including paper towels to clean the surface for the next coat. But everything I used left behind a lot of lint/paper fibers/whatever. Very likely this is user error, but its not a problem I usually encounter.
I used the General Finishes High Performance water based top-coat over the paint. It smoothed everything right out and left an amazing finish. Its been only a few weeks, so I can't speak to the long term durability, but it is holding up very well in a very high use application. Its easy to clean and doesn't seem to scratch easily.

Joisophene: I really like this paint! Covers great, doesn't scuff that easy, has a sheen between flat and eggshell, lamp black is a great colour! The only thing that bothered me about this paint is the price! I cant find general finishes products anywhere near me.... so with the shipping included, a quart cost me almost $60! I was very hesitant to buy this product because of that. But I did and I am happy I did! It's great paint!

Terrance W.: This paint is beautiful and exactly the look I was going for. Used my Wagner sprayer to apply and had no issues. It's expensive but gives you the one of a kind look you want. Worked well with stained undercoat to give a great distressed look.

MsMichele: Had to do 3 coats of black on a light oak dresser to get full coverage. Should have used chalk paint, but brought this because of the reviews. But no more!
