Leia1980: Such a beautiful color! The Espresso is a deep, dark rich brown. Almost like dark chocolate. The shelf arrived with all pieces intact, no damage. Very high quality piece of furniture for an online purchase. So easy to put together, as clear instructions provided. The unit was assembled in about 20 min even with using the allen wrench. The only smell I noticed was the wood, nothing foul requiring airing out. Using this unit to display some antique bears. Everything fits perfectly and while the bears do not not haveuch weight, the unit is sturdy and easy to move around. Thus far, very happy with the performance and appearance of this ladder shelf. Loving this purchase!

jesslaurfont: The wood is nicer in person! And the shelf is very sturdy ( it comes with the brackets for anti tipping too!) I put it together on my own without issue. Holds lots of books on the lower shelves and the top is perfect for photos/art/trinkets.

Ken & MichKen & Mich: This shelf is the exact type and size of shelf I was looking for. I was looking for a ladder style shelf that would fit into a small corner of kitchen, and would fade into the background, while still being functional/sturdy enough to hold some specific items. This met those criteria perfectly! I was actually surprised with how many cook books I was able to fit onto the shelves!
However, I deducted a star because I was expecting the quality to be a bit better based on the reviews. The paint job wasn’t great (bottoms and sides only had one coat and some marking on them, although the tops and front were sufficiently coated). More importantly, (I only noticed after the fact that only one other reviewer mentioned this design flaw) the top and bottom sections of the shelf are fastened together with metal plates on only the back side of shelf. The front has nothing to affix the sections together, which seems incredibly strange and quite problematic if you ever attempt to move the shelf around by lifting it. Thankfully my shelf will be stationary and has been fastened to the wall, so this won’t be a problem for me. Overall, it’s a great shelf that has perfectly fulfilled my needs.
