Brian H.: I needed an OEM MTF that was equivalent to OEM Honda MTF, so I chose this 75W-80 GL-4 brass specific synchromesh manual transmission fluid/gear oil. I noticed that it did the same thing other matching/equivalent MTF’s did, such as Valvoline, Penzoil, AC Delco/GM, or Quaker State Synchromesh MTF.

This is REQUIRED for Honda’s and Acura’s that have manual/standard transmissions, with their known weak brass yellow metal synchronizer rings in the gearbox. If your MT gearbox is grinding mildly or locking you out, you will most likely have to run these fluids/oils. If you don’t have enough, just buy the cheaper equivalent fluids I mentioned, and add a qt or 2 of AC Delco (GM) Synchromesh FRICTION-MODIFIED. This will stop MOST of the crunching, grinding, and lockouts.

holland powell: Seems to be fine. Used this to fill my m5odr1 manual transmission after I rebuilt it. changed the fluid after 1 week of driving with normal small amounts of metal. Changed again after 1 month and no metal at all. Shifts are very smooth and have no complaints

ElijahElijah: I love valvoline. Make sure you’re doing your research to guarantee this fits your vehicle. Used this in my Honda gear box and noticed smoother shifts right away, although the work to change the fluid and watching clean fluid go in may just be a placebo making me think it’s smoother. Nevertheless, I am happy with the product so far. Will be updating if I run into any problems.👍

Mountain Dewd: After rebuild of 1969 Ford Toploader and using widely available GL-5, I was getting occasional grinds going into 2nd gear no matter how deeply I pushed in the clutch release. I was recommended to use a GL-4 lube, or get one specific to to old synchronizers. This seemed to ave done the trick. However, now the transmission leaks from a couple of places. I was told it may be specific to Valvoline lubes. If it gets bad, I may have to take the trans apart and replace the seals again.
