TonySomo: Excellent intro to epigenetics. It’s engagingly written and easily accessible to anyone with a basic background in biology & genetics. The book surveys the history and findings of the main branches of epigenetic research in sufficient technical detail to give you an appreciation its importance and its potential applied impact in such areas as Medicine.
It does whet your appetite to learn more about this exciting field.
Highly recommended.

cclue: The author did an excellent job not making this a dry medical read. While the medical terminology is there, the concepts and information were presented in a fun and easy to understand manner. The research in the epigenetic field is absolutely exciting and astonishing. A great read.

Johan AjnabiJohan Ajnabi: I've bought these two books after watching a seminar presented by Nessa Carey, the writer of these two masterpieces. I found this book so intriguing that I spent several sleepless nights on reading this one followed by getting print outs of the reference articles and going through them along with two more text books to get more of this topic. Moved by the piculiarity and the adventure of a largely unexplored field of Epigenetics, now I am preparing to deliver my credit seminar on this subject. Just buy this book and start reading it. I swear, no matter from what academic background you are from, you'll feel the charm of it as the way it has been written is so lucid and from very basic level that it is easily understandable by everyone. All I can say, this is the "must have book" to command over this subject. Still thinking? Go get a copy now!

Grande libro.

Paul R. Fleischman M.D. author of Wonder: When and Why the World Appears Radiant.: This book is interesting and notably competent science writing. The proper audience for this book is someone with specific interests in genetics, and biology.
The word, “epigenetics” refers to all those ways in which influences are imposed on the genetic codes in DNA in our cells. Unfortunately, as Nessa Carey reminds us on page, 101, the word has been used in many different ways, and therefore a book on epigenetics ends up resembling a book called, “Many Topics About Genetics and Biology.” One of the strong points of this book is the author’s determination to provide the reader with a text that is thorough and up-to-date, and one of the problems with this book is the shotgun, or smorgasbord effect of trying to cover many topics related by an abstract concept, but not necessarily very similar to each other.
This book consists of sixteen chapters, each one of which deals with a particular cellular phenomenon in which the genetics of DNA is superceded or modified by some other effect. For example, in Chapter Two, the author discusses cell differentiation, why the cells in our body all contain the same DNA but make different tissue types. In...

Dave the Rave: Revolutionary does not hardly cover it! I will never look at mehylization and imprinting in the same way.

WTHBS, this is a must read for any budding behaviorial genetists in the crowd. The author turns upside down the 'it's all in your jeans (not the last pun in this review)' argument by posing the following questions: 1) if our mental health is so hard-wired into us by our genes, how come ONLY 50% of the identical twins with schizoprhenia have schizophrenia (see Disclaimer # 1)? and 2) Among labratory rats breed to be genetically similar, how come ony 20-30% of their weight can be predicted by environmental factors (i.e. leaving 70-80% of the variations in the litter mates' wt unaccounted for (aka due to individual differences).

Be warned, however, like much of scientific writing every word means something different and, if your 1st year University Chemistry is not quite up to speed this book can be hard slogging. My advice? The author might have spents some more time dealing with the issues that can be discussed in English---err---I mean understood by those of us with out a background in biology.

For example, in the chapter where she...
