Gary MillerGary Miller: Enjoyed reading Madam Speaker. There was much I did not know about and there were some errors that the author should correct before the next printing. I lived in San Francisco in the early 70s and was political involved. The minor errors in the book include her reference to the San Francisco City Council. San Francisco does not have a city council.
She speaks about the Harvey Milk Democratic Club in SF, but not the Alice B. Toklas Democratic Club, which was the first LGBT Democratic club in the nation. Though I had moved to the Sacramento area by the time she ran for Congress, my heart still lived in San Francisco. The author doesn’t fully provide the in depth frustration of Pelosi, who had never held public office running against a gay man from a city with a large LGBT population.
Pelosi has made huge contribution to the American people. The author should be applauded for writing a good bio. The author is from Wichita. If she is reading this, I have some stories to tell you about Wichita and how I made front page news.
I had the pleasure of meeting Speaker Pelosi many years ago

Sharon Broski: it was a very informative book and I now know why Nancy Pelosi is so successful. She is very
politically astute and seems to be able to persuade Congress effectively when it comes to passing
difficult bills. What I did not know was that she got into politics after she raised her five children.

Bill Emblom: Thank you, author Susan Page, for a riveting read of 357 pages of text on the life of Nancy Pelosi who has served our country admirably as Speaker of the House of Representatives. I know it's a cliche to say it but I found the book hard to put down. Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, she moved to San Francisco following her marriage to Paul Pelosi. As an aside Thomas D'Alesandro, Nancy's father, as mayor of Baltimore, was instrumental in bringing the St. Louis Browns to Baltimore to become the Orioles in 1954.
Throughout the book author Page emphasizes the toughness of Nancy Pelosi who believes in seizing the moment by using the power of the office to get done what needs to be done. President Donald Trump met his match in Nancy Pelosi who refused to be intimidated by his bombastic behavior. Where he made derisive nicknames of others such as "Lyin' Ted" or "Little Marco" no such negative nickname was attached to Speaker Pelosi.
Nancy Pelosi also is the mother of five children, four girls and one boy, who needed her attention in raising them in addition to having a career in politics as well. She drilled into her children her alliterative motto of "Proper preparation...

Lynne M. Spreen: The first third of this book details Nancy D’Alesandro’s roots, down to describing the villages where her mother’s and father’s families originated. When she is finally born, we see what it was like to grow up in an extremely political home, and how that shaped her. Then she’s a young mother running her family with military precision and dabbling in community politics, but still not looking to forge a career for herself. This is instructive. She wasn’t a political animal from the start, although she certainly had the training.
The bulk of the narrative focuses on Pelosi’s time in Congress, and here we see how brilliant and determined she is. Each of her significant political challenges, victories, and losses is examined in minute detail, from which emerges a portrait of a fiercely gifted political strategist who nevertheless rules with a heavy partisan hand. The anecdotes and accounts from her contemporaries are interesting.
What I took away from her story was just what a badass the woman is. She's inspiring. From this account, no matter what stage she’s at in her life, she rules it. Nothing phases her. And this is also a detriment to the book. Surely...
