Astonished!: This is a great book that does not exactly demystify the song writing process, but gives you lots of ways to tap into your own creativity. There are several ideas in this book that are ‘gems’. So what you really want to know is did I write one song?? Well I did! Is it great? No! However that is not the point, this book helped me get started and provides a guide to follow to keep having and developing ideas. The process is also fun. Highly recommended.

Kevin W.: Let’s get this out of the way: Jeff Tweedy is a brilliant writer - both in song and tome. This book is a short and effortless read. It addresses what most songwriters encounter - and makes all of our fears and emotions normal, okay, and human. That’s Jeff’s superpower in addition to being a wonderful songwriter. Make no mistake, this book will help push you through to your first song - at least the lyrics part.

I believe this book could have been better had Jeff included how lyrics are functionally integrated in the song itself - the song’s structure. You know, the AABA stuff of composition. Had that been included, Jeff’s work could be contextualized in a more actionable way for the songwriter.

Andre C.: This man is a great soul, he didnt have to do this I hope people understand how great it is to being able to have a book like this.
It's almost like a fluid conversation between friends. he makes things sound so simple, yet in reality they actually are.
If you really want to do this, you have got to really want it. There's no other way of looking at it, I'm not talking about fame or anything, just learning to have a structure,rigorously following it until you have got enough confidence through that process, and in result you feel inspired and can enjoy having fun making music, not just recording 1000000x demos on the phone! good luck
