PJ: This book is for readers with above average science background or education who can appreciate knowledge shared at a bachelor’s or master’s level . Concepts shared by the neuroscientist author include more than everyday vocabularies and scientific studies and theories. It is extremely well written. Humor is clearly and cleverly intertwined.

Amazon Customer: This Masterpiece should be compulsory in every home...globally!
Sapolsky is a genius.
I'm presently on his other Masterpiece, 'Behave'...another household essential. If this human species is ever to 'learn' what it really is, and why it acts as it does, Sapolsky has it all written down in this amazing real biological truth of what we are!

Gary R. Frank: Behave is an excellent, comprehensive and intriguing book. Sapolsky presents scientific information in a wonderful way as he weaves his tale of human behaviour. Be sceptical of the post-modernists and other social provocateurs: our biology plays an integral role in our behaviour. It’s not simply about nurture.

KenD: Amazing book. When I first started reading this book I was afraid that it was going to be far too technical for me to grasp as I do not have a background in this subject. But as I continued reading I began to understand the information being presented very clearly. The author is an exceptional teacher and disseminates extremely technical information in such a way that it becomes understandable even to those who are not familiar with the subject matter. Turned out to be a page turner; I couldn't put it down. Very impressed with the depth and lucidity in which this book was written. It's an entire University course in one book. Highly recommend.

Bernie Gourley: This book examines the role of biology in the best and worst of human behaviors – as well as presenting factors that compete with or complement biological explanations, as the author finds relevant. Sapolsky is neuroscientist (specifically, a neuroendocrinologist) with a unique perspective as his research cuts across species – involving not only human beings but also baboons. Sapolsky investigates why humans fight, cooperate, rape and forgive by comparing and contrasting human behavior with what is seen in the animal kingdom.

The first thing a potential reader must realize is that Sapolsky dives into the weeds more so than most scientists writing for a popular audience. This will be a plus if one’s grasp of science (biology, in particular) is strong. However, if the reader hasn’t read anything on biology since high school or freshman year of college, one is likely to find the names and descriptions of hormones and neurochemicals, brain sectors, and protein processes a bit daunting. The book has three appendices that offer primers on neuroscience, endocrinology, and proteins, respectively, to get readers up to speed on the basic science....

A. Menon: Behave: The Biology of Humans at our Best and Worst is a comprehensive overview of ways to think about the causal mechanisms involved in human behavior. This is of course a massive subject that is still poorly understood despite large strides made in the lace century. Robert Sapolsky tackles the root causes of behavior through multiple lenses to give the reader a sense of how our minds work. This book is not easy and the material it covers is from many technical subjects which are then interwoven. But for the interested reader this is a pretty remarkable achievement as one gets an overview of human nature from a combinatorial lens of primatology, neuroscience, behavioral economics, biochemistry, psychology among other subjects. Such an attempt would seem impossible for almost any author, but this book largely achieves its goals.

Behave is split into 17 chapters in which each chapter effectively thinks about behavior on a longer time scale, starting with immediately before to getting to evolutionary origin. The author starts by posing questions on how our behavior originates. The first 5 chapters highlight this point and the author discusses topics...
