It have finger charts, notes/ advice for different pages and explaining the correction of shifting, scales of different keys, and after all these exercises, have little tunes and pieces to practice in different positions. I love this and would recommend 😁

Miss N.: Arrived today so I took it to my lesson this morning. My teacher had a look though it and said it was exactly how she was taught, so we'll be using it as the workbook to get me going on positions.

What a game changer! It took the toil and trouble out of learning it with structured, progressive lessons. Worth every minute and every penny!

AAJ: At first, I was planning to put this away until I muster the energy to endure the necessary but "tedious" exercises. After skimming through it, though, I plan to incorporate it into daily practice as much as I can. It was presented clearly, and relatively simple to follow.

Il me manquait une méthode spécifique pour la 5° Position: la méthode Van den velden comble partiellement ce vide, mais ne propose pas d'exercices mélodiques.
Pour un prix modique de 7 euros, la méthode de Havey S whistler propose, en plus, des mélodies non seulement en 3°mais en 5° position;
Par contre les explications sont en anglais ce qui peut gêner certaines personnes.

Mr. P. W. Challinor: This reprint of an old work is a terrifically thorough book with hundreds of brilliant exercises for developing your familiarity with the third and fifth positions. It starts with C major in the third position and each scale has a good number of exercises and studies from older works on technique, such as those by Dancla, etc. There are also exhaustive exercises on shifting for each of the keys. There are also excepts and arrangements of famous pieces in the third and fifth positions, as well as pieces containing combinations of first, third and fifth positions. As an adult beginner of the violin with nearly 30 years experience and proficiency with other instruments, I found this book was exactly what I wanted. I spent about four weeks on the preparatory exercises for C major, and then worked on 3-5 exercises per week for the next three weeks, playing each for about 5 minutes per day. It improved my ability to play in the third position with good intonation a great deal. I definitely couldn't have got to that point without this book. In summary: if you are prepared to put in the effort, this no-nonsense, thorough book will get you playing in higher positions with confidence.
