Lorne Triska: I have been teaching in the public school classroom for 37 years and I just keep smiling and nodding as I read Ron's book. This really is a nonfiction page turner. I am a little more than half way through and I am constantly looking for opportunities to get back to it. Ron is right on when he suggests that parents need to take back education for their kids so the values they grow up with and retain are ones that parents would approve. Curriculums should be enabling, not disabling. The curricula I have to work with are becoming more and more disabling. Pasi Salzberg is right on in coining Global Education Reform Movement as G.E.R.M. Parents should know what they want for their children and accept nothing else. Ron believes that internet courseware will allow parents to do just that. I personally completed my masters degree entirely on line. Far more rigorous and thorough than any bricks and mortar program could be. Ron's ideas are well worth reading.

Allen Mendenhall: Former Texas congressman Ron Paul has been a track star, flight surgeon, obstetrician, author, political theorist, and presidential candidate. Now he has written a book about American education. What motivated him to do so, and when did he develop an interest in curriculum, education technology, and pedagogy?

The answer, he explains in his preface to The School Revolution, is rooted in his personal experiences as a young student in the 1940s and 50s. Dr. Paul was educated in a small public school in a suburb of Pittsburgh. He explains that he grew up when the “federal government was not yet endowed with the authority to keep us safe from ourselves,” which is to say, when the messianic character of American education had not yet set out to secularize the youth, condition them to accept the ideals and principles of Statism, and divorce them from the canons and foundations of Western Civilization. The young Paul was instructed in prayer and the Bible and never saw his peers use drugs or commit crimes more serious than skipping recess or gym class.

Paul excelled in math and would finish assignments before the other students could. “The sooner I finished,” he...

Athan: I almost never award one star to books, but I'm rather angry with "The School Revolution"

I bought the book for legitimate reasons:

1. I have a generally positive impression of Ron Paul as somebody who speaks truth to power
2. All I learned in school was how to quietly (or otherwise) count down 40 minutes
3. My son just started school and I'm giving some serious thought to the idea of home schooling
4. I would not know where to start

I just finished this 205 page book (small pages, wide margins, probably a 150 page book in any other format) and I am none the wiser. This is only tangentially a book about home schooling. It is an advertisement for Ron Paul's forthcoming home schooling curriculum.

I've paid GBP 14.99 to read an advertisement.

The advertising copy reads as follows:

* State school does the bidding of government because government bears the costs and "he who pays the piper calls the tune"
* State school teaches our children to depend on government for help. It does not teach freedom and leadership
* State school addresses the needs of the worst student, it is lowest-common-denominator schooling
* Lecture hall /...

Patrick M. Hussey: Completing his fourth book in six years, Ron Paul delivers a devastating broadside against the State in this piercing and insightful masterpiece about education. It has many hidden gems, as one would expect from Dr. Paul. However, I found a few shortcomings that are worth mentioning.

In the preface, Ron Paul shares his personal experience, including some facts I did not know about him. In the introduction, Dr. Paul shares his motivations, which do not come as a surprise. He has suggested to us that phase two of the revolution should be education and training of the next generation of students, and to win the battle for hearts and minds one student at a time. From my personal experience, as a Liberty organizer and father of three, I wholeheartedly embrace this concept.

In chapter one, "Educating for Liberty," Dr. Paul asserts that there can be no extension of liberty without personal responsibility. He then shows how the violation of this principle gives license to the Nanny State, which we residents in the People's Republic of Maryland know all too well. People in other states laugh at the tyranny we permit. Further, Dr. Paul shows the linkage between libertarians...
